Ok i play soccer. Train tuesday & thursday and play matches on a sunday. By the time each of these come around im b******d. I never feel in peak condition going into training or a game - i always feel stiff! I do a warm up on all occassions but not much of a help.

I dont know whether its lactic acid, unfit or the wrong training. Is there any exercises/measures i can take to help me with this.
    Thanks in advance

p.s. I'm naturally fit and could run all day in a match but I know i can do a lot better!!

Ah you don't need to run all day. Once you have a reasonable level of fitness then the 5 km slogs won't help you that much more. Start doing sprinting and perhaps plyometric style training if you want to be a bit more nimble on your feet.

Start doing warm downs and using ice baths if available straight after training before you have a hot shower.
    It works magic.;) ;)

I had the same problims as the OP & a ice cold bath did the trick, once you get into the bath its not too bad but it the getting in thats the hard bit

Would an ice batch be beneficial on a Sat night before a game or is just after training/match??

After training/match is where the ice bath comes in best. Before the match it wont do anythign for you. Reason is that the ice bath promotes blood flow and helps hugely with muscle regeneration and repair so the sooner you do it after exercising the better.

Failing that the amount of football teams that I see on weekends that dont do a warm down after matches and training is staggering. You do a proper warm down it will get rid of the lactic acid get blood moving properly again and a lot of stiff ness and pain will be gone.

What do you eat after training and games? Do you go for pints by any chance?

You should try to get 100g fast acting carbs (high GI: sports drink, bananna, liga or even a spud) and upto 60g of protein (chicken, tuna, whey, fish, eggs) into your system within 30 minutes. If you do this and warm up and warm down propperly you should be able to train on consecutive days even if you are pushing 40.
