A thread that does what it says on the tin. If you're heading to Trinity come October (or before!), say hi and mention what course you'll be doing.

    Yep, that's about it.

If I get accomdation, I'll be starting History and English.

I was just wondering, you had this mygrant thing in your profile, as an EU student (UK) would I have to fill some form out or something to stop me from paying tuition fees, or will that happen automatically?

You should just get a bill for €808 (registration fee + USI levy) instead of c. €5,000 :)

Straight law or the non-straight kind (i.e. with languages)? Welcome to the law faculty anyway! There's a few past law students here I think (I'm taking a year out this year - would be in second year otherwise) Myth, Gabhain7 are both ex-TCD law students I think.

    Hey all.

I'll be there in October, after sweating my grant and my accomodation.

    Maths and English TSM.

    My second choice English Studies.

I'm rather depressed and disheartened at the moment as I got the points necessary for my first choice (also at Trinity) but missed out on random selection. Does anyone think I stand a chance in later rounds?

A lotto system to decide who enters a college course! PFFFT!

You're probably mixing him up with law grad Xeducat. Easy enough to do, they were both former tcdsu education officers so their posts would be of a similar ilk.

Is this for natural sci or engineering? I went along to that just for the laugh even though I got an a in chem for the LC. Well it was cos my mate hadn't done chem so went along with him. iirc you'll likely get a chat from a Prof. Sylvia Draper. Now this woman talks like a simpleton, if you met her on the street you'd think to yourself "what an airhead". She's actually viciously intelligent and an absolutely lovely person. I remember this distinctly because it was my first introduction to the slightly quirky and eccentric faculty the science end tends to hoard :) Welcome anyway and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here

Depends on what your first course was - if you got the points, you are eligible to apply for a transfer into that course. Drop in to see your tutor during Freshers' Week, and ask him/her about transferring if you wish to do it. It will depend on whether there is a free place, by the way, but if someone got the course you wanted and doesn't want to do it, they will be looking to transfer out and you could take their place.

Hi alll. Been a TCD boards lurker since february, had my eye on my course since then. I'll probably be seen here plenty in the near future procrastinating!
Going into first year Computer Science, and I'm hoping I'll get into halls. The fact I'm from Co. Waterford might help, a fair distance.
Came to Dublin today and spent the day wandering the streets around TCD and the campus, well impressed!

Hi, I'm entering SF BESS. Not at all a fresher, I'm just finally introducing myself after deciding to give up my lurking ways on this forum!

By the way cianclarke, you should be pretty likely to get into halls next year. I did last year, and I'm from Co. Waterford also. Being from outside Leinster, it's probably classified as "de sticks" and its inhabitants are taken pity on and sheltered in the warm embrace of Trinity Hall. You'll have a great time there, tis a mad laugh altogether out there.

Know what you mean about being impressed about the TCD campus, the warm fuzzy feeling inside when you enter the gates takes a couple of weeks to subside;)

Don't worry, around half of TP will have changed course or dropped out come Christmas, unless something magic happens. When I left, there was 19 left out of 35.

I know someone who transferred last year from Maths to TP. Meet your tutor during Freshers' Week.

    See here.

Wahey. will say hi in the comp sci labs.

also i will demand you pester the rest of your class to come if i get around to organising another CS department party - thinking of doing a start of the year one this time :) they're generally quite good, CS are heavier drinkers than you would think. and its a nice way to meet a few of your lecturers completely informally. they're mostly sound.

oh and I'll be back in october too!! And for those of you who are new, I'm the girl of no balance and currently the only girl who posts here regularily so any female freshmen wandering about please help retify the balance. Now I know that there are slim pickings among the male boardsies but ..their adoration is worth anything:p

oh and tcd boards newbie of the year 2006.

Yup I'll probably see you around somewhere in a few weeks.
Any advice for first year CS? Time table doesn't look too bad, although the one online probably isn't up to date. Are most of the lectures in the Lloyd now?

I noticed on wednesday they had some load of work going on, presume they just do it all over the summer? Full of bloody Italians too...

Unless you're over 50 you'll probably find that's not the case. There're always mature students... :)

Sure, there's a 30 something year old hairy biker just finished first year. James is cool :)

I did say slightly! I'm not old and grey just yet!

Glad to hear there are plenty of other mature students though.

See your last post on this thread, I replied to it with information. While you may wish to know about chances, there's no way of knowing if there will be a free place in English & French.

Rules for transfer are here (PDF) on page 9/10 of 24.

Its for anybody who has to do chemistry in first year who didn't do it at the leaving cert. So science students and engineers.
