    Congrats

As a matter of interest can you remember the weight you first started pushing?Only kinda started myself, and surprised at how little I can lift(can do much better on other exercises...)

Out of curiosity, is this using a smith machine or just the standard bench, olympic bar etc

How many reps did you do
How many times a week have you been training

For somebody only training a year on and off, you are either banging roids or unbelievably strong or are one of those stumpy 5fters with short arms. Did the bar touch your chest?

    Congrats anyway

my bro is one of those scary dudes with animal strength.

when we both started in the gym I weighed 70kg and could bench 50kg, 3 sets 6 reps

he was 64kg and could bench 75kg, 3 sets 8 reps.

That's some good going. I've been training regularly since mid-Feb and I'm only able be bench 2*25kg dumbells at the moment (4x8), I'm 80kg. Although I'm cutting, so I wouldn't be fueling myself with energy to make massive gains! Fair play!

Daveirl - thats bull****, what you posted there is hardcore, shows a pic of thee, i know you said you have a long way to go in some of them, but no way unless your around 60kg and judgeing by previous posts we all know that ain't true, i have been in hardcore gyms in Dublin, Thailand and Sydney and i have seen plenty of guys doing roids that wouldn't get anywhere near what you posted there

What's your big obsession with the "Juice"?

Maybe it's possible that he eats right & takes the right supplements?

Also, congrats to the OP, keep going and set yourself some targets like DaveIrl has done.

empirix what ever your views I generally wouldn't go around bad mouthing any forum mod on their own forum.

On topic empirix stop talking sh1te you obviously don't know that much about, yes a lot of people who take roids can't lift that big but that is because they are looking for the quick solution to looking good as oppose to actaully being strong. I would advise you to get a grip (preferably to lift something big) cause these are obtainable goals for people who want to actaully push themselves enough to get them. yes your general gym goer might not be able to get them nut the whole point of this forum is to help people push them selves more i.e. contary to popular believe it isn't just about telling people ways on losing weight

It is hardcore I guess - but it's definitely achievable naturally & for a bigger man. Lots of guys do roids to gloss over the fact that they're lazy and don't train smart. Don't think too much about what you can't do & you might surprise yourself.

    Congratulations to the OP.

My one rep maximum is only 80kgs and i'm nearly 90kgs.I started the bench late having used machines for the first nine months and i find its very slow to make strength gains onthe bench.Ah well, perserverence and plenty of it!:)

Good work, next stop 2x bodyweight :D

and then off to the zoo to wrestle some bears.

I remember getting my first 20kg set of dumbells and thinking "that christ I didnt waste my money getting the 50kg set, this is more than enough", I was only doing curls and military presses and tricep work as I didnt have a clue what I was at. Now I have about 140kg of plates.

I wasn't bad mouthing anybody, i was merely pointing to a reality check. I aint obsessed with the "juice" as you call it either, i was training in a gym with the former Mr.Australia(amongst others) - who was clearly on the "juice" and he wasn't getting near this.
The nearest bloke i seen getting near the Squat goal as outlines was a maori about 5ft tall and 10ft wide and to be honest was rediculous, the strain on his body/heart looked immense - nutter
Those goals would scare the bejasus out of any newbie thinking of taking up weight training
75% bodyweight dumbbell curls!!!!!! - madness

Fair play to Daveirl, best of luck to him but i don't agree

Apologies about the barbell one - only 30kg each side, this is certainly achievable ok

As for meeting them goals naturally, to be honest i personally think you'd wanna be blessed with the finest genetics around - i don't think a lot of these could be done by 95 % of the worlds population without the help of the "juice"

Daveirls goals are tough but do-able. It is not correct to suggest that these goals can only be done with the help of "juice". Personally I would be pretty close to doing a 250% bodyweight deadlift for 6 reps. I reckon a 100% bodyweight military press for 6 reps using good form is probably the hardest goal on daveirls list. Tough if you are strict with form (i.e. you keep back arching to a minimum)

A good guide to what are "decent" lifts can be found at the following webpage. These are 1RM lifts.

Dude no offense but you really need to stop hangin around juciers and get to know some proper strength coaches as the goals dave has posted while high are what any natural trainer can acheive, with proper planning, training and recovery. Personally while i haven't set those goals for my self i expect to be able to acheive similar by this time next year and i'm training full natural. Just remember the cns is stronger then the size of your muscles.

I plan on being able to bench 150% of my body weight.

And I expect it to be EASILY doable. It will just take time and constant small levels of progression.

I'd say that's reasonably achievable, a friend of mine in the gym was squatting 600lbs (properly!) aged about 20-22. He is an extremely determined and particularly focused individual, but it shows that these are achievable targets for a dedicated person. Keep working at it!

As for me, injury and other setbacks have knocked me back a year... from a 92.5kg bench (i weighed about 80kg), im back down to about 70kg (i now weight about 75kg). Pretty annoying, but strength will return with time.

Incidently, at 80kg i did manage 6 reps of 135kg squats, which is about 170% bodyweight, and I wouldn't have considered myself 'hardcore'.

Well done to the OP.I managed 115kg weighing 80kg 1RM about two weeks ago and i dont think ive ever been as happy in my life.
Although saying that i im training in Queensland University and the lad who one the annual bench press competition was benching 125kg while weighing 73!He just had to go and rain on my parade.

Yeah, it can be surprising when you start how little you can manage. Even now the most I can bench at the moment is about 50kg - and I've being doing weights awhile.

Surely Mr Australia is training for appearance and not strength?
Why not look at power lifters instead of body builders?
