Eyes hanging out of my head after morning exercise

If I go running for about 5km in the morning I usually get rings under my eyes around the time I get into work or mid morning.

This makes me look like I have been out on the batter the night before.

I eat well, am fit enough (swim, run, cycle, usually once or twice each per week...often more) and take cod liver oils tablets most days, with A to Z vitamins tablets every other day.

Usually I'd get 6 to 7.5 hours sleep per night. I'm presuming I need to sleep more. However, last Sunday I went to the gym... ran 5km on a threadmill and my girlfriend told me that my eyes looked sunken back in my head and all red

    What is going on?

I do. Make time for your sleep. Nothing makes me miss a meal. Nothing makes me miss my sleep.

How much water do you drink in a typical day?

oh man, i get about 5 hours sleep! Maybe that's why i can't get up to go the gym? mmmm, intrigueing.

6 to 7.5 hours can be fine for many people. Personally I need my 8 hours (I used to need more) but 8 hours a day is definitely not a hard and fast rule.

Could be dehydration or perhaps eye strain. Do you tend to squint when you run? Do you rehydrate with just plain water or do you use a sports drink?

    Thanks cousin_borat & Stark.

I have survived on alot less sleep previosly and not had this problem so I doubt it is sleep related.

For the info of the wise-a$$es I included my sleep in the original post as obviously this was the number one thing I thought about initially.

I don't know exactly how much water I drink on a usual day, not too much really. I will up the intake and see if it helps. I don't use sports drinks.

Like most boards.ie folk I spent the day sat in front of a monitor so perhaps the years of it are taking their toll on my eyeballs.

However, this dosen't explain why on sunday when I ran on the threadmill that my eyes sunk into my head like that skeleton from He-Man. I got loads of sleep that night. Perhaps not enough water. Will experiment drinking more.
