Just came out of a year long relationship last week and am getting used to being single again. The things im most looking forward to are the mad drunken girly nights out and not having to worry about someone else all the time. So guys tell me what you think are the best things about the single life?

I can play dungeons and dragons all day long, and no-one (except my mom) will tell me to stop.

Came out of a 4 year relationship this time last year, been single ever since - by choice. I can safely say that I am alot happier now and realise what I had been missing out on. Not just the single nights out and all that, but my time being MY time. I love it.

I think that we come into this world alone and we leave it alone and that one of the greatest things you can learn for yourself and those around you, is how to be happy and content in your company. Being single gives you the chance to do this more than being in a relationship. That and the easy shags in Copper face Jacks.

well i have to say there's nothing like the thrill of the 'chase' on a night out. then again, there's nothing as bad as not pulling after all that chasing. singledom does make life cheaper though. what was 1 drink each, is now 2 for you :D

CS would be sadder, IMO. At least a D&D game generally means leaving the house and meeting other people.

getting control of the remote and having the whole bed to yourself and not having to pick up other peoples socks and being able to get the DVDs you want to watch and not having to ever watch football again and never having to see his mother, brother, aunties, uncles, cousins etc. again, being able to get drunk without disapproving looks and being put in a taxi early and have not have to keep telling him he was the best lover you ever had when clearly he was crap ..........................ohhhhh i could go on single 9 months and lovin' it

LAN = meet people & leave the house.

It was a joke anyways.... wasted on here i am.

Best thing about being single is being able to chat up people and follow thru ;)

    * Be able to go to the pub straight after work and not having to "check in with da missus".

    * Whatever money I make is all mine.

    * Be able to see my "unacceptable" friends again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 661 ✭✭✭thewing

In some cases this is a disadavantage.

Some take time out to find themselves and then realise that they were better off unfound.

Not speaking from personal experience of course.

Advantages? Hmmm where do I start?!

You can watch whatever the hell you want whenever you want.
Likewise with food - you can eat all the smelly garlic coated food you want.
After all the garlic / spicey food you can fart all you want.
Not worrying about what the other person is up to.
You can be guilt free about having hairy legs.
You can have PMS in peace without any smart comments about Munster playing at home.
You can play your own girlie music if that's what takes your fancy.
You can drive your car without smart arsed partner making comments about your driving.
You can have sex with different people without feeling guilty.
When you do a bad wax job no-one is going to see it.
You have time for your own personal thinking space.
You don't have to keep your mouth shut while the football/hurling/rugby/**** shooting competition is on.

    Need anymore?:D

When you feel like doing something or going somewhere you can do it without having to get qualified permission from the Security Council with the threat of sanctions if you don't follow her instructions exactly. :)

That sounds like a dangerous place to be to my mind. Living in a way where you're deluding yourself as to who you are is bound to cause you to make wrong decisions. Sure, it can be tough to come to terms with who you are as a person, but it tends to make you a better version of yourself when you've come through it.

Back in the day there would have been at least one spin-off "Advantages of being in a relationship" thread by now, where have the protectors of equal rights gone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,784 ✭✭✭Dirk Gently

Yeah, where's the " I love relationships" thread. What's after hours coming to when a thread can go unanswered without a reactionary thread being set up within minutes.

Thats all great until after about a year and a half and then you decide you want a relationship and then all the crap starts again, getting to know someone their like & dislikes grrrrrrrrr, was single for 2 1/2 years and am now in a relationship for the last 3 years and i have definitely found the perfect man, all those things you talk about being able to do when your single well i can do them in a relationship.. It just depends on who your with... :)

THe advantages to being single are if your good looking and got some confidence you can shag your way around very easily, if your ugly/ can't tlak to people there's no advantages bar you can get falling over drunk nightly and no one will care

Was just gonna say that. Ive been single for 3 years now and while im happy doing my own thing, I miss having someone to direct some affection towards and share stuff with. I never changed my life when I was going out with girls, maybe comprimise some stuff to spend more time but if its a hassle its not gonna work. Happy enough now tho but looking foward to when someone comes along! Beds are made for two...

Your options are always open, so when you meet Miss Wright , your available , and if that doesn't work out, you start again on your own , and if Miss Wright2 is available , your ready ... the weird thing for me is when I'm in a relationship , i find it stiffling , and then when i'm single , everyone else seams to be in a relationship, and i want one too .
One final advantage of being single, you don't have the pending doom of the actual breakup itself to look forward to.
