Need advice for this Saturday's 10 mile race

    Hi all,

I just came back from a short break abroad with an awful cold. I managed to get up early last Thursday and Saturday and did two 8 mile runs. Then I got the cold. So I'm home sick and won't be able to train today, don't know about the rest of the week. The adidas 10 mile race, for which I'm registered, is this coming Saturday. I don't know if I'll be able or if I should run it at all. I'm a beginner preparing for my first marathon. The 8 mile runs I mention above have been the longest distance I've ever run continuously.

What do you think I should do? Shall I try a short easy run, let's say on thursday, then run/jog the race? Thanks for the advice.

stay in bed! or you might get a relapse which will put you out for a few weeks! = loss of fitness, give it a miss

this happened me two years ago. got a cold straight before the first in the series 5 miler. i ran it and paid for it big time. i was restricted to bed for a week after and lost more than id gained.

best advice give the 10 mile a miss. while you have a cold if you go out running your body is concentrating on running rather than fighting the infection and as such the infection gets astronger foothold.

Agreed - sign up for the half in september and get that milage up when you are well next week.

Make sure you are supplementing and eating healthy all the time. Running will break you down so optimum nutrition is essential
