I was going to post and ask the same thing.. I would love to be able to help out.

Was thinking of this earlier too. I'm sure one of the admins will set up a paypal account when they can get around to it. I'd be willing to donate.

Had the same thought earlier on too! I'd see if I could donate some worthwhile amount.

Would there be any way boards could protect it's assets (i.e. servers) maybe by setting up another sister company and transferring ownership of all it's capital to that company? If all does come to all and the assets are threatened, it might be worthwhile

    Yup
I suggested the same thing to Regi last night.
I think the Admins will want to hold off for the moment but if it comes to a stage where money is needed, it's a fantastic idea. Good thinking on the SSF as a back up ;)
I think the Admins will be pretty surprised at how many people will happily donate to a cause as righteous and moral as this one is.

Some funds are available to the admins if needed on Ruus behalf. Good idea.:)

    Damn fine idea!
I'd be more than happy to throw a few quid boardswards via paypal.

I mentioned it previously but this is the start. It's not going to stop with just one company so an ongoing legal defense fund would be good. Why not have a version of INEX but for Irish webfora? Am sure it won't just be boards who'll keep lawyers in business.

Or perhaps we have legal people posting here prepared to offer their services pro-bono?

EDIT: Obviously if this isn't the case you can count me in for a contribution to such a fund.

    Ditto the donation idea.

Lots of people will be happy to donate as usual beruthie.
As have always done so before it was a popular thing to do so. (I remember when RAM was needed)

But lets not think of it a righteous and moral crusade. It is an every day thing in the buisness world. Certain un named people have the right to protect their brand. The protection of their brand will fail them in the long run but they still have the right. Do you think the people at the "top" "signed off" on the bad things? If there was a huge punch up at the boards beers last night would DeVore have been responsible? Yes or No?

It will be an interesting case and it could have huge implications. I am sure Tom et al is more than up for it.

As much as it's a case that boards.ie members are very interested in and will back boards to the core, it is not a crusade.

Just a natural part of the Evoloution.

    Boards.ie FTW :)

I'll give mine to xSor as usual.

    Mike.

    Since 1998 Mike65.

If you had been on the net since 96 you would understand more. Privavcy is very important to some :) Posting now seems right.

I have browsed this site since it was the quake site. It is a very useful information site. Any question you would ask? It will be asked and there will be an answer. Sure you don't even have to ask, some one else will.

I'd hate to see boards.ie run into difficulty and have always been there for it. My money is where my mouth is. Not that I am saying I chew on my wallet.

Legal case? Is this to do with the [EDITED] thing or the other [EVEN MORE EDITED] thing?

Or maybe it's the thing [EDITED] posted about getting [EDITED] by [EDITED] when he was at [EDITED]?

    Wha?

What I'm saying here is can someone PM me and fill me in cause obviously we can't talk about [EDITED] here for fear of [EDITED].

In addition to the ring-fenced Boards Legal War Chest Fund, I'd like to propose and donate to the ring-fenced Boards Beer Money Victory Fund for when the admins/the community win :).

actually, without wanting to jump the gun entirely, it is possible that legal costs would be refunded to the "winning side" Especially if it was known that 100s of ordinary people contributed to the fund.
    :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭Dooom

That's usually what happens isn't it? Ie. The loser, for lack of a better description, pays the winner's legal fees?

In addition to the legal fund, which I think is a great idea, would a letter writing campaign or online petition be of any help?

Basically a politely worded expression of our concern, as both users of boards.ie and potential customers of a certain company, at the heavy handedness of the action taken. If we harness even 1% of the registered user base thats over 600 letters. I'm sure users of thumped and cluas, and possibly other bulletin boards would lend their support as well.

I know the admins can't comment on this so perhaps one of the legal minds that browses boards could give their opinion.

Using old college fundraiser idea here - the boards beers seemed to be a great success, so why not book a venue and charge €5 or €10 on the door, putting all the money towards the legal fund?
From what I can see Boards seems to have a few budding band members amongst it's community, so maybe it might be a good idea to sign a few of them up to play (for free of course) on the evening.

EDIT - I have organised many a fundraising event in my time and would be happy to help with the organisation of it.
I have a few venue contacts etc, could probabaly wangle some drinks promo's too (fingers crossed).

If funds are required, can I make the suggestion of a charity poker tournament? A friend organised one in the Fitz last week which made over three grand for a Kenyan school and orphanage project and given the level of interest in poker on these boards I'd say you could guarantee a strong turnout. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

As I previously indicated - I would be happy to make a donation to help cover costs in a scenario where boards.ie is being attacked.

Not entirely sure what this specific event is, I can only assume it is a further twist in a summer-long saga. I await an announcement, or to hear about it in the news.

May not be that simple, many of your venue contacts may not wish to take sides on the issue. After all they will still have to make a living when this is all over.

Who knows, this post may not even disappear ?...

over at p45 we would be happy to round up some individuals and do a whip-a-round too. that said, it would probably only buy you 3 hours of legal defense. but anyway, we'd be happy to help if you want to give P.C. or meself a shout.
