I've just finished my second Triathlon, Blenheim & London, in 2.5 months which were sprint distance:

    750m swim
    20km cycle
    5km run

Now, I have signed up for the London Dualthon on Sept 17th which is:

    10km run
    20km cycle
    5km run

I'm looking for advice on how to go about increase my running training so that I can cope with the longer Dualathon running leg. Currently I can cope with the 5km which I did in 24mins 24secs in the last Triathlon.

Should I continue to run 5kms in training and up it each week by 1.5km or so? Is there any point in running 10km for the next six weeks or is running the full distance of little use (as I saw mentioned in the Marathon training threads).

Ok this will get me past the first 10km and onto the bike. What would you suggest would help for the third leg of the dualathon - the last 5km.

Should I just train to run 15km at once?

i was going to do a couple of these this summer but i decide to change to doing weight training instead.

Truthfully i would say that on your long run days that coming up to the event you should be looking at doing 15km at the least. I would probably go with nearer 20 km on your long run. Just remember on the day you will have to run 15km so your body will have to be use to doing this sort of distance however you have to take into account the 40km cycle (your post says 20k cycle are you sure it isn't 40 as a duathlon is a triathlon except the swim is swapped with a 5km run) in the middle of it so if you aren't use to doing anything more then 15km running on the day you will be shattered after the additional cycle are you are going to be in bits come the second run. So if you do upto 20km you body will be in some way use to the extra effort that it is going to have to put in on the day.

    Oh and good luck

    Thanks for the info.

Yep it is 20km cycle, check out http://thelondontriathlon.com/LDhome.html

The race is titled "challenge" distance, so perhaps that is why the cycle is only half the length.

Hmmm, that sounds like a lot of running. Best get my runners on and get out there tonight pounding the pavement
