Poles get free Rolls....

In gym last night, speaking to a mate who's working at a car dealership...group of Poles arrive looking for second hand motor to the tune of 4,000. Car duly selected, test driven, deal done. Check is presented...its a 4,000 quid cheque drawn on the local Health Service executive. When quizzed Poles said was given to them beacuse they couldnt be expected to be able to work and live in Ireland without car, therefore made reprsentations to the social....and were given the funds!!!

Two questions....

A) is this the norm?

Am I the only one who thinks this is completely and utterly hatstand?

But on the off-chance that this is true...
There are families on social welfare and the likes who could *really* have used that sort of money to get themselves off the ground, get working, pay for the kids to go back to school, etc.

Mate of mine was selling her car in the car dealer magazine thing and she got a call from a nigerian lady who wanted to come and see it.

She came to see it anyways and said she'd be back the next day with a cheque. my friend rang me about it, a little worried about taking a cheque from a Nigerian so i said I would come over when the Nigerian lady came back.

Sure enough she came back the next day with said cheque. It was an eastern health board cheque. I suggested my friend rang the health board to check, she did, and the cheque was fine. Out of curiosity she asked the health board rep why the nigerian had a cheque for 5000 and was told it was because they cant travel on public transport due to racism and need to get a car!!!!

i suppose it's the black bus drivers not picking them up too.

i'd say what happened there was a bus drove by a stop because it was full and this nigerian woman instantly assumes it drove by because she is black.

add to that the government falling for tihs crap. it's a complete joke.

Yes agreed, i get the bus twice a day five days a week and I have never seen any racism of any sort!!!!

Bullsh1t. My mother's a social worker with the Housing Welfare Section of Dublin City Council and she is always talking about this sort of thing. The corporation (aka city council) give handouts to the poor people for fridges, cookers, replacing windows, etc. Its at their discretion, but claims like yours are just stupid. They make sure the cases are genuine - I mean it's their tax money too, why the hell would they judge this to be OK. This kind of rubbish is an urban myth and just adds to hostility.

It's always 'a friend' or a cousin' or 'my neighbours girlfriend' was selling XYZ and the healthboard/ council paid for it. Give it up.

I dont drive myself and yes my friend was selling her car!!!! I was there when she rang the health board...take it up with them.

Ever see those prams abandoned around town? they are left there by our immigrants as they know they can get another one easily enough. Our system is a joke!

The person at the EHB was obviously lying. She made that money from selling all the free prams the EHB gave her.

Although never having any personal experience with it, it is a well known "urban myth" (if you don't believe it) than the government pays for foreign nationals transport in the form of cars etc. but tbh this wouldn't be the first time I've heard of someone with first hand experience witnessing this...(and people i know in real life...not internet storys )
