Vicar Street... that's sweeet. I missed them the last time they played there.

€44 is a tad much though.

hotpress.com are proud to be the first to reveal that the Flaming Lips are set to play a very, very special show in Ireland.

Not content with having already played Ireland this year, at the Source Festival in Kilkenny with Bob Dylan in June, the Flaming Lips are to return sooner than anticipated.

As a rather special treat, the Oklahoma troupe are playing on Saturday 18 November at Vicar St in Dublin - which only holds a maximum of 1,000 - as part of their Waving Your Wand tour.

Tickets are €44.25 each, and go on sale at 9am on Friday 11 August. Expect them all to be sold out by 9.05am.

The Lips' latest album At War With The Mystics is out now.

€44 is a tad much though.

As always, its a scandalous amount for a gig. But in fairness, I paid 80 odd bills to see Al Green in there last year and he only played for an hour! Beck was 45 last year for the Olympia gig, so at least it hasnt gone up in price in the past year!!

But I would gladly pay that much to see the Lips there, as I hear they're incredible live.

Saw one of their shows from this tour earlier in the year. Absolutely amazing performance, one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Do what you can to make this gig, it's most definetly worth it. Although €44 is steep, think the gig I was at was around €25 but that's Irish prices for you... still worth €44 though!

I saw them in Kilkenny earlier in the summer. It was a great performance that easily topped Dylan, but I don't think I'd need to see them again so soon, especially at €44.

The fact that it's on in Vicar Street will entice me though...

brilliant. None of this 'oh I hope I get a ticket'. I AM getting a ticket to this. Show in Kilkenny was amazing and that was on a fooball pitch!

Kinda funny that you can get tickets to their hometown gig for $15(about €12) this weekend.

by lunch time if i can remember correctly

i'd imagine these will sell out like weezer sold out (10 minutes) when they played vicar street.

the flaming lips would have a bigger fan base in ireland than weezer would aswell

got to remember though we are in ireland and there's a whole lot of overheads that need to be met whilst playing overseas.

just off the top of my head, gear transport and the fact that vicar street is only 1000 people where as in their hometown they'll probably be playing to over 20000 people.

With the Flaming Lips gig coming up I'm wondering what's the story with underagers in Vicar St? From what I heard, at Dragonforce earlier this year (?) it was billed as Over 18s but in fact anybody could get in but people with ID would get a wristband for buying drink. Anybody know if this is normal for Vicar St or if it was an exception?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Mr Rivers

Sounds like an exeption cos it was a metal gig, lots a metal gigs are goin all ages like Opeth. For Flaming Lips I'm hoping for ID only

EDIT: from ticketmaster: OVER 18'S ID REQUIRED

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

    Merged since this is gig-specific.

I've never been asked for ID at Vicar Street. There's no guarantee, but the likelihood of you getting in is high.

Dragonforce never played Vicar Street btw. ;)

Fair enough. I just noticed it's clashing with Springsteen anyway, so I'm gonna have to miss it. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

I'd expect a second date added for this.

If you mean 'cause it's clashing with Springsteen that night, I'm going to all three nights of Springsteen, so not much use.

If it was anyone but the Boss I'd be at the Lips, no discussion!

I just got into the section for the 2nd gig so still tickets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,836 ✭✭✭Toast

That has got to be the fastest sell out of a gig in the history of this country. I was online 9 on the dot and nothing. Im guessing that there had to be a bit of backroom shenanigans or something. I hope they didnt go to touts!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Mr Rivers

I dunno, looks like Aiken were planning a sell out, why isnt the 2nd date gone now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 311 ✭✭tracert

Got mine for the Saturday. Would love to go both nights but... Springsteen!

the second date is still up, weird. Though it said they were on sale at 6 this evening when i saw it first. Bet a lot of people left the site.
Also when i was buying them first it kept telling me they were sold out until about the tenth go, i was going nuts!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 361 ✭✭Redegg

    Second Date now sold out

Got the last three tickets in Stephen's Green for the Saturday night. Only balcony but sure what the hell - at least I'm going.

    Yay me!

It's crap not having a credit card - there was only 12 tickets sold for the Saturday night at the Stephen's Green ticketmaster stand. So the first four people were the only ones who got em.

Get a laser with AIB, great for tickets

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,417 ✭✭✭Miguel_Sanchez

I've got a plan to get down onto the floor from the balcony. Me and my friends are going to bring giant inflatable balls, sneak them in and then inflate them and get inside and get passed off the balcony onto the crowd. Everyone will think it's part of the show and we'll be grand - might even get on stage!

    [Patent pending on this idea]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Didn't bother with the tickets, so I suppose I'll be giving this a miss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭markcellardoor

i'm actually depressed as hell i didn't get tickets for this. someone even warned me last night :(

i enjoyed my sleep too much this morning.

i even got up for an early morning wee at 7:30  , all i had to do was stay awake :(

i was in the Square, Tallaght at 8:45am. ONe guy was in front of me. I'm not sure what he got, not sure if it was Flips, but why else would he be up?? I was served at 9:02am. "Standing or seated?" "Standing." "oh, they're sold out..."

luckily, I came back home and got tickets for the second night about 9:15.

i mean, that's a joke. at most 4 tickets could have been sold in Tallaght. It is a total scam that the tickets aren't available at the ticketmaster kiosks, but they're still going online. of course the 12.5% charge has nothing to do with that.
it definitely seemed like most of the tickets were all sorted out before they went on sale, that tends to happen with big Vicar St shows.

Looking at ebay a fair few went to touts, online is the only way to get them for popular bands now
