    hi there,

i am new to dublin and wanted to know if there are any parks with kilometer marks.

or if there is anyone around who is looking for someone to run with, i normally run on my own but i thought it might be fun sometimes, maybe training for a competition or so, nothing professional. and i wouldn't mind meeting a couple of new people.

    thanks,
    christine

I think alot of places have those 'Slí na Sláinte' yellow signs along walkways which denote kilometre markings. I run along the coast on the northside and they certainly have them there. They're also along the walkway by sandymount and the phoenix park as well. I'm sure there must be a similarly marked route near you. If there isn't then using a site like www.mapmyrun.com is great as you can map out a route yourself through the streets of dublin or pretty much anywhere you happen to be. As for going for a run I've no problem running alongside someone. I think it makes it easier. But the guys in the Athletics forum may be able to point you in the direction of clubs that may suit you better or who might be able to keep up :). Hope that helps you.

You've no doubt thought of this but you could consider buying a gps watch from Garmin or Polar which will tell you to the metre how far you've run. At least that way you can run where ever you please. They're pricey mind you. I would recommend the Garmin Forerunner 205 (305, which I use myself, comes with a heart monitor but is more expensive). A more reasonable option is to go for the older models like the Garmin 201 which are available at very reasonable prices now that the 205/305 are out.

hey slowrunner, i guess your name is supposed to be a hint and i can assure i am not a speedy gonzales myself. so if your interested in joining me, that would be great. i live in clontarf at the moment and i sounds as if you might not be too far away from there.

Oflynna ... now that slowrunner has your number you might consider editing it off your post ... not a great idea to put your contact details on a public post like that ... if you don't mind me saying. :)
