I'm not a Mom, and there's possibly some PT's with personal experience out there with post-pregnancy women regaining their shape but I'll throw in a few ideas anyway.

Exercising during pregnancy will go a long way towards helping you regain your shape afterwards and keep you healthy throughout the pregnancy itself. Pilates is also reputed to be excellent both during and after the pregnancy to strengthen the core muscles (not just your abs but your back as well which will be put under significant strain as the baby gets bigger and heavier). It'll keep you strong without being punishing and will help relieve stress.

As with anyone who's looking to 'tone up' certain areas diet will also play its part- Your body has just undergone enormous strain, and your new arrival means you are going to need all the energy you can get. So make sure you eat properly and maintain your health- eat healthy, balanced meals to keep your energy levels high, keep processed food to a minimum, watch your intake of caffeine, have plenty of fresh fruit and veg and healthy complex carbs.

One of the best tried and tested 'weight-loss' aids postpartum is breast-feeding. Of course this is a personal decision fo you to make, but there are huge benefits not only to a new-born baby but to you too- for example, the hormones your body releases when breast-feeding help the uterus to return to its normal size.

Be patient and accept that it may take some time for your body to return back to your pre-preganncy weight. Thanks to some very high-profile celbrity new-mums, there's a huge drive for women to want to get their flat tummies back after giving birth asap and go to extreme lengths to achieve it. But its entirely normal for it to take around 8-12 months to get your figure back.

I don't know if there's anything like this in Ireland yet but I know in the UK there's a huge increase in specialised classes for new mums who want to get back in shape using all the tools a new mum will have- uphill walking pushing a pram, (killer exercise to help shape up the bum!!), lunging with the pram, weighted stationary lunges holding the wee one!! Exercise can (reasonably easily) be fit into the day like a 30 minute walk outside.

    Good luck with everything!!
