Hi, i had an anterior cruciate ligament operation back in March. It's improving the whole time but someone recently mentioned isokinetics to me. Basically, it helps people who are recovering from sports injuries determine where they are in their rehab. Anyway, i'm just wondering if anyone has heard of this? I'd go for a session but i'm not sure where i would go. I'm living in Cork and i'm just wondering would anyone know of any sports physio in this area that does isokietics? Thanks

    Hi Lostinspace,

The Human Performance lab in the Mardyke arena in UCC offers biodex isokinetics testing. Check out

    http://www.mardykearena.com/facilities/hp.htm

While isokinestics testing is a really valuable assessment tool Isokinetics testing should really be taken under the direction of whoever is directing your rehabilitation.

Personally I would not stress your ACL graft until at least 6months. An isokinetics test places considerable strain on the knee. I cannot stress enough that you should consult your rehabilitation director (physiotherapist or sports rehabilitator) or even your orthapedic consultant before undergoing the test.

Dont tell me they perform Isokinetic testing in UCC. as in Isokinetic force testing? If this is true then it speaks bundles for the poor state of the industry. And perhaps the physio will have you stand one leg on a swiss ball while eating a banana. All in the name of strengthening.:p

If its force testing your after, gimme a pm and I'll put you on the right track

I would be very interested in hearing more about your force testing.
