Most of you have an anonymous character on boards. Mine's Blue_Lagoon. Your character has a personality. Is your character's personality close to your real personality, or is it different? And if so, how is it different from the real you? *

Me? I'm just having fun! And as foolish as Blue_Lagoon sometimes appears, I am very much like her in real life.

    Comments?

*Note: This is not being done for some silly article to be published in some magazine, but rather just for fun.:D

well all my opinions are the same. Sense of humour would be the same also. only thing different would be that i could get away wit talkin more ****e on here than face to face. i might say a few things on here that i wouldnt say in real life due to the anonymity, but i'd stil lbe thinkin it in the real world. so ye, greatly similar.

    I'm just me.

I may be a bit more restrained on boards as I have the luxury of time to think before posting rather than shooting from the lip as is my wont in the real world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,465 ✭✭✭Archeron

For me its the same as The B Man above. My opinions on boards are the same in real life, and my sense of humour is the same as well. However anonymity affords me the ability to say things I wouldnt in real life. In fairness, I think this makes me a bit cockier than i would be normally, but sure no harm done once its not used to flame anyone.

I try to avoid annoying or upsetting people on boards just as I do in real life because I dont see the point of it. Plus, on boards you get to ask questions that you wouldnt dream of asking in the real world because you know that everybody would just look at you like you'd grown a new head. For example, I would never tell anyone in the real world quite how much I like Animal bars :)

I'm honest sometimes too much so, and yes I’m exactly like my boards personality.
In 'real' life I say stupid things, I have the concentration span of a tiny flea which my mates find funny, I like to be silly when hung-over and get drunk a lot, I'm vain to a certain extent so I take loads of pictures I don’t really care pretty much what people think of me and my friends respect that! My mates and my family also think I work hard and play hard to the point of exhaustion mostly and yes I somewhat enjoy the attention of the opposite sex (just a tad though)
    :D:D;)

Chalk and Cheese mate. Chalk and Fcuking Cheese.
    Pighead's a wanker, I'm cool
Pighead likes older women, I like girls my own age.
Pighead loves Diet Coke, I can't stand the stuff.
However we both love to wake up on a fresh Summers morn and take Shep across the fields where we'll all dance, frolic and sing with joy in our hearts.

Nah, i'm exactly the same on here as i am in real life. Any of the boardies who know me in real life know that! :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I don't know, how do people perceive me on boards? It's probably the best question to ask someone after they've met you at a beers or some such, but as far as I know, I'm the same across the board...:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

I hate monkeys, it's all I've talked about for so long, people think I'm a one note guy. It's just getting harder, you know?

I don't have a boards.ie persona, just a username. Simple as that

I am actually a sexy french woman, but wanted to avoid the barrage of "gotz piks?" PMs.

I am the same on boards as I am in RL, for the most part.

pretty much the same, except my anti-drug views are not as harsh.
i just love seeing the stoners here get all riled up when i call them scumbags.
what makes it funny is that they go on about hash making you all mellow and stuff and then start spewing bile when someone disagrees with them.

other than that, i'm the same jackass in real life as i am here.

Given the right circumstances, ill talk a lot more in real life. I put a lot more thought into conversational input when talking to people rather than a screen.

No, I actually AM a Gnome.

im prob nearly the same I cant help my personality so trying to act differently on boards just wouldnt work. Im just as opinionated in real life but I prob express more on boards than I can in real life - which is great I can give an honest opinion and let off steam about things without worrying about consequences

im far more sober and behaved on boards than in real life though as I only use it during work hours

I’m totally different. I’m soft and cuddly and nice in *RL* and a total bitch on here, or is that the other way round? I sometimes mix the two up.

I'm pretty much the same on here and in real life, though I'd probably talk a little more in real life.

I'm the same except I have darker hair in real life and hate tomato based pasta dishes.

I seem to be the only schitzo here so far. Sometimes I think I am exactly the same offline and other times I think I'm about as far away from online me as could be. Not going beyond one line sentences-whew now that is an offline characteristic

What was that personality theory guy? Cooley? Said that there were three ways to look at someone's personality: (1) the way you see yourself; (2) the way you think others see you; and (3) the way others actually see you. He called it the "Looking Glass Self."

But 1 and 2 are pretty much the same thing because when we are thinking about how others see us,we're actually just projecting our own true feelings about ourselves onto them.

More blunt and to the point in real life... Probs don't have less tolerance to ignorance,. I'm Probably funnier too.

What you say has merit. I think that he anticipated people who would manage how others might see them. Like makeup. You know you have a blemish hidden under (1. how you see yourself), and you think that others will not know (2. how you think they see you without the blemish).

Funny,I'm quite the opposite. I always think people will know! Mainly because I know it's there. :D

I see what you are saying of course (and I take it the guy who said all of that was a psychologist) but most of the psychologists I know would say that, whenever you think someone else thinks a certain thing of you,the likelihood is that you actually think it yourself.

Not really any different than my real self, probably a bit quieter on here with less swearing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

my thoughts are the same when i'm on the boards, but the way I respond is a lot different. On the boards you are given a lot more time to compose your thoughts in response. In RL I tend to blurt out something in conversation, which is based on something I know and something I assume. On the boards I have the time to look up the thing I assume just to verify its actually right. Plus I seem to be able to write better than I can speak, which is probably why my best friends are the ones I used to write to when I was younger.

you wont fool us. we've all seen the videos!

as for me, well i'm sure i'm a project filled with mayhem, but my sense of humour would be fairly similar to what it is here.... just people usually laugh (nervously, project of mayhem remember?) in real life...

Animal bars are my favourite bar!! The chocolate is so creamy and they're just the right size to satisfy my sweet craving....they're fun too!!

My personality, opinions and sense of humour are the same in real life. I agree with all the other posters so far about maybe being blunter on boards due to the fact that I can hide behind my computer!!

Hey jerkface....you have the face of a jerk!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,350 ✭✭✭Lust4Life

That's a very good question, Blue!
I would have to say real life and user personna are very similar for me.
I live loud, I have fun, and I don't take it all too seriously.

Except in real life I am a bit shy at first - until I get to know people.(Can you believe it?? )
Then once I feel comfortable, I'm silly as always.

But, no, in real life, I don't look like Pamela Anderson!!!!:p

Oh, and in real life, there's no Insult Thread. Maybe that's why I'm not very good at it!

And, of course, in real life, there are real life things going on around me that Boardsies never see. That would go under your "How People perceive you/ how you think they perceive you" section.

Hmm, Sleepy started out as me but he's developed something of a personality of his own at this stage. He's a bit of an alter-ego.

I'm more confrontational on here than IRL, less forgiving of opinions I find ignorant, more likely to throw a cat amongst the pidgeons etc.

I curse more in real life, use less TLA's and generally don't explain myself as well as I do through the written word (which says a hell of a lot, eh!?)

I have no idea, id say im fairly similar--ish, easier to talk to people IRL though , so I may be a little different, and I argue with everyone in real life, which fortunately i dont do on here. I went other btw
