    Better festival of racing.

I didn't think any other agendas were being discussed on this forum.

The racing is better at Listowel, but if it's socialising you're after then Galway is a better meeting.

10 times the festival of racing.

I stand by the original comment. You are obviously one of the ones who get mistake 'craic' over quality of racing.

Yeah will have a few bets too, have missed it the last couple of years tho.

Is the quality better in the jumps than the flat still?

ive got ahout for a horse called ethon 13.50 on Weds, an old school friend is involved with horses in a big way so i suppose its from a good source, also Jublilant note in the 5.10 (mon)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,438 ✭✭✭Morgans

Just a comment on one thing. The racing at listowel is in no way of the same quality of Galway. Maybe two levels below.

Horses like Grey Swallow, Go And Go, Timarida, Aristotle for instance have won their on the flat at Galway. Check the Racing Post to see what they did afterwards, but the only classic winners to have run in kerry were Vintage Tipple, Desert King, and Alexandrova and none of them ran at listowel. Its not even close as a contest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭Corben Dallas

IMO The Galway Races is a festival that is more of a 'have a few beers in the sun while theres horse racing on', rather than a serious Horse Racing festival.
The quality of horses that enter are no better or worse than any race regular meeting in Ireland.
It was really funny to listen to Hector on the radio last year, every day he tried to pick out a winner for teh listeners and every day it got beaten(which would tend to suggest that there wasnt much quality entered).
Hardly any UK enteries? nothing of Group1/2 lvl?

Galway Races has gotten so big because its more of a 'party' festival than a Racing festival.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,438 ✭✭✭Morgans

Anyone expecting the breeders cup or Arc day would get a shock at Galway, but make no mistake it is the best racing in Ireland between the Punchestown festival and maybe Morgaina hurdle day in October. It is the ONLY meeting that trainers set their horses out for throughout the summer.

Hector didnt tip any winners, because he is a tool. (And tipping winners at Galway is tough going at the best of times.)

I've no love for Galway but the quality of the runners is underestimated there. Ansar for instance finished sixth in a champion hurdle. Life of a Lord won a whitbread. There arent many British runners because their summer jumpers wouldnt be in the same class as the Irish ones. Ballycassidy came over for the Galway Plate a few years ago, and was beaten out of sight - he was second in a Grade 1 chase subsequently.

Exactly ... i hate when people take over from what the thread is suppose to be about.

TIPS : KING ALI in the first * MONTANA SLIM in the last

Two each way bets, great value, with a chance

I recieved a fairly solid tip today for Serve Time. The lad who gave me the tip gave me A Glass in Thyne at Cheltenham (who was going very well and looked to have a great chance when it fell  ). He's an auld lad who never puts more than a fiver on a horse and he's after putting 50 on it which says alot (he's either a fool or a wise man :p). It's 11/4 now, and it should be shorter than that at the off.

Please don't back this blindly, I haven't heard how it's been going for them at home and I don't really know anything about it myself so I'll only be having a small punt. It's form is solid enough, 2 from 2, but this is a dodgy race.

"It's always a good race on the opening day and he's a horse who would appreciate a nice ease so I hope the ground is not too firm for him and that is my only concern." --Dermot Weld.

Seeing as it's raining now this horse has to be fancied.

No time to explain. Cabo in the 8.10 Galway. Guy i work for part owner expecting him to go close 10/1.

Good source told me p. brennan in the 7.15 and 7.45 Uttoxeter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,588 ✭✭✭Bluetonic

If Mirpour is back fully fit then it could win the 7pm. It's been 340 or so days since he last raced, here in Galway, bursting a blood vessel. Good horse previous to that and no denying Griffins stable is in form. I'll be taking this one each way.

Good day for favourites so far, I bet on them all so far so its all good :D
Although I think I will be looking past EuroLeader in the 7.00, I think I will give Clusks horse some support.

Fraid the first one was an unlucky loser :(

I think I'm gonna row in with clusks horse in the next... it'll either be party-central here after the race or we'll be skint

Good point Chump .... what I meant to say was, shame on you Jonesey FOR only getting two of the first three!

R the races not on now? How comes your not there..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

    Who won the 5:10?

I'm speaking through my pockets but I didn't really like the ride by Carberry. I'd need to see it again but I still can't decide if the horse was just knackered or it was bad riding, or a combination of both. 1f out I was sure Serve Time had it done and dusted.

Weld 3 from 3 - brilliant going so far for him. He really does dominate Galway.

2 from 3 mate! Cheers though, Euro Leader would make it 3 from 4 on my lucky 15. I've a seperate e/w bet done on clusk's horse. :)

lets kick off day 2, anyone got some tips
nice one with Cabo yesterday, 10-1
we need more of this today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,588 ✭✭✭Bluetonic

Not a tip by an means but due to the fact that Paddy Power are paying 5 places in the mile @ 7pm, I'll be having a good each way bet on Bricks And Porter as although beaten by a few of these last time out, from experience of him racing in the past if the going stays yielding he'll enjoy it. Currently 12s.

Edited to say I see the Racing Post online have said something similar.

Here are my nags for today :

5.10 Mill House Girl ( good form, good valu )
5.45 Pharviva ( Halford ranted about his chances yesterday )
6.20 Truely Gold ( got a good tip for this )
7.00 Back to Paris ( where im going with my winnings, lol )
