Het-Field: Can I be your friend Sangre?

    Sangre: DENIED!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭dajaffa

Well personally I'm political-party free and proud.

If I HAD to join one, it'd be the greens, purely from the point of view that the dangers our environment are grave and worldwide, political leaders aren't doing enough (apart from the nordic countries)...

Granted UCD Greens disassociated themselves with the "Green Party", + they're just about the environment or something.... seems a bit stoopid to me. If they wanted that surely they'd change their name to make this clear

Would you not vote on who shares your political ideology rather than who you like to hang around with?

No Irish party actually reflects what the Irish people want as a nation, they merely let people know what they are offering and we pick the best of a bad bunch. The PD's have gone the right direction by not using the whip (insert predictable joke here Grimes or Boneless) on moral issues.

Uh huh. There is consensus out of there of what the Irish people as a nation want and no political party have the brains to pick up on it, nor has anyone managed to convey this message?

    Well said mate, well said.

Socialist Workers' Party for you tbh.

No, I had a similar policy when I was in UCD.

Then again, I was in Gamesoc and Sci-Fi, so my opinion on who is worth associating with might be considered suspect by some.

    NTM

well you see if somone was to make the decision for you? Say me for example, abolish all political parties and make one man run the country on behalf of the people. Rule by decree ftw.

Seriously it COULD work and especially in ireland where the electorate are too apothetic to even vote.

I'd join any of them other than the PD's.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 738 ✭✭✭TheVan

So you would join Sinn Féin before the PD's?

Join a party who are linked with cold-blooded killers, racists and sectarians, a party that wants us to leave Europe etc?

But you would also join Fine Gael, who are an extremely pro-Europe party?

Seems like you haven't thought this one out man, just making a knee-jerk reaction to the PDs?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,350 ✭✭✭Het-Field

He'd also join the Socialist Workers Party who in a recent speech referred to Hezbollah etc as freedom fighters and agents of liberation. See the link below. They also want people in the North to renounce their Unionist values before moving anywhere

There's a Communist Party in Ireland?
    Never knew that

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,350 ✭✭✭Het-Field

Yep, there is a communist party in Ireland. Its a very small thing, and most of its members jsut believe in the ideology, and take very little action. One of their recent leaderw was a bona fide Stalinist though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,199 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

    I don't think I'd call Stalin a communist tbh.

Communism, that little boy in the corner who used to always put his hand in the fire and could never understand why it kept getting burnt.

Most sensible thing you've ever said.

Don't like any of the major political parties here tbh - tho I've considered joining the CPI alright, for what it's worth.

Oh, and I was in the SWP for 2 years. But in my defence, I was young and stupid.

Now I'm old and marginally less stupid.

You were in the SWP Seb? When was this, never seen you about as I strugged to sell the rival SP paper. We could have had a battle.

And to think i socialised with you, studied with you, talked with you, mabye even loved you:rolleyes: , and all this time you had a deep dark secret that you had a SWP past. I mean they can be terribly authoritarian. I thought you were in the SP, but its all tainted now :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

Ogra Finna Fail: Maybe. Good policies but not really my cup of tea.
Fine Gael: No. They are pathetic. They have spent the last 6 months whoring themselves to the electorate, trying to ****-stir ans frighten people...I have no time for them. (Even though I agree with some of their policies that FF don't have)
Green Party: Idiots. Technological neanderthals who don't understand the limits of renewable energy.
Young Progressive Democrats (with the sexy vice chairman): Probably the best party in terms of Irelands future. I like all their economic policies but disagree with some social policies.
Labour Youth: Rather visit Vet, and shag all the patients.
Socialist Youth: I don't even know who these are.
Socialist Workers Party: From what I hear, even the left don't like these guys as they try to hijack campaigns and parties. How are they different from the CP.
Ogra Sinn Fein: I have yet to find a policy of theirs that I agree with.

In agreement. All of the parties have good points and bad points, good representatives and bad representatives. I usually try to vote for an independent over someone who is obsessed with towing the party line. Saying that my local td Dan Neville (fine gael)is pretty damn wicked.

Maybe I might start my own party..............pandapolitics..the big bamboo will work for you......

Anyone want any info on YFG, pm me.

Further to Pythia's offer, to keep things balanced, anyone can PM me and I can give you the details for the people in the other campus political parties - you tend to meet most of these people being a civil servant-style hack...
