CSI or Law and Order?

I like them both but I prefer Law and Order. I don't know. There's something excruciatingly corny about the "moral of the story" and "cops have problems too" bits at the end of CSI.

Law & Order any day for me! Vincent D'onofrio (or however the hell you spell it) is a genius on Criminal Intent.

I'm going to assume that it's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation vs Law and order, those two series only instead of the entire franchise of three series each, in which case CSI because L&O ran way too long and lost the plot, plus the ability to vote for Vincent d'onofrio would be nullified as he's in a spin off.

i always think of Family Guys scene where they have the latest law and order spin off Elevator Inpsection Unit ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Rockerette

i've never really watched L&O, but i doubt it would beat CSI, cos im in love with that show.
    Gil Grissom, my hero!

(well, after jack bauer of course...)

If anyone has Living TV, every night betweem 9-12 you'll find a few episodes, definitely original CSI every night at 11, and then Miami (which aint half as vool) thrown in every night too somewhere usually.
Triple bill on Wednesday nights :D

    Law & Order FTW

It's Law and Order for me. Though I do like CSI, the illusion of lab rats chasing down the criminals themselves falls apart for me on occasion. Law and Order consistently has some fantastic character acting. I also enjoy how the investigation and the prosecution blend together.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

The two shows are quite different with CSI being the cooler, hipper show while L&O is more serious and older skewing. Personally I don't like procedural shows but CSI (Las Vegas Version) has great stories.

csi is a excrutiating to watch.
its plain annoying with the laughable story lines and stupid bloody effects.

    lao all the freaking way.

for me I LOVE both series, but if I was to choose a favourite spinoff it would be:

    Law & Order Criminal Intent.
I think Vincent D'Onofrio is absolutely brilliant.

    CSI Miami
Horatio Kane is great. Every time I watch him I am in stitches. He is soooo hammed up it hilarious.

I think Vincent D'Onofrio is superb.

I much prefer Law & Order.

    CSI is a bit wooden.

No, the two franchises. Sorry, should have made that clear.

CSI: Miami is the only one out of both franchises that I'd actually make a point of sitting down and watching.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

I think everybody has their own favourite brand of each.
    Mine is CSI:Vegas and Law & Order:SVU

CSI New York is good but I haven't seen enough to judge.

Miami gets more rediculous with each passing season. David Caruso is creepy and a terrible actor. I read an interview on TV Guide and when the original cast of CSI visited Miami they said that there was a bad atmosphere and ego trips evident and that they couldn't wait to get back, something tells me David Caruso has a huge ego.

I am addicted to both, but I own 6 Law and Order box sets so I'll say L&O. Criminal Intent, to be specific. I <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 Vincent D'Onofrio.

He surely must be greater than three. :D

I'd watch both but prefer L&O, specifically SVU as that's the one that got me into the series.

The two lead actors Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni both received emmy noms this year.

Chris Meloni was also excellent in Oz

    he is a brilliant actor

    Also quite sexy. :)
He was in some play that was running in Dublin quite recently too.
Edit: Never knew Mariska Hargitay was the actress Jayne Mansfield's daughter (Monroe-type blonde bombshell who died at only 34).

Have to agree with this. Great actor. RTE had the show for ages but I'm not sure whats happening with it these days. Its on Channel 6 now. All repeats but still good to watch.

Are they still making this now?

Just checked it. There is a season 6 so maybe RTE might show it some time

yeah actually i think you're right.

well if it's the franchise i'll still go CSI as i love the NY version, reminds me of NYPD Blue, plus my timewarp fascination with the 80's makes me think horatio is actually cool :D

the new season (5) of L&O:CI is showing on RTE2 late Fridays nights.

These alternate between Goran & Eames and Logan and Barek.

    Shane.

Law and Order hands down the winner. SVU brilliant stuff, can't watch the Criminal Intent one, find that Vincent chap to be a bit out there. Used to watch CSI, but there are some serious crappy actors in it, and they tend to rely on technology most of the time.
Can't stand the blonde bird in Las Vegas CSI, Horatio is a clown, and the New York, one is like watching Eastenders -its too dark/gloomy.

Yeah, she's irritating all right. Is the character of Horatio based on David Caruso's character in NYPD Blue?

I know a dude who's quite literally David Caruso's doppelganger - he is just HIM 20+ years ago! And he's sick of hearing it.

David Caruso is actually half-Italian, half-Irish - obviously it's only the Mick half that has come out on the surface.

Wow, all of the above is pretty darn useless. Heat making me ramble...

i much prefer the characters in Vegas definitely, i think Catherine and Grissom make a cool team, and Nick & Warrick too. Sarah is a bit annoyin sometimes, but hell, even the lab guy Greg is a laugh sometimes :D

but then Miami... god they anoy me sometimes. all of them..

hang on who are you talking about here is it marg helgenberger who's like red/blonde from CSI or is it emily procter the blonde from MIAMI with the annoying squeeky voice?

Catherine Willows be her name. in fairness to her she looks well, but my god is she annoying.

yeah helgenbergers character is really love her or hate her a lot like horatio, i reckon that may be why so many people like L&O more, the characters aren't as absolute, your not forced to decide whether you like or hate the characters,

e.g. i think CSI gets sidetracked with main character storylines:by the time willows husband kicked the bucket in seaon 3 i was fed up of the story, and Saras alcoholic storyline is painful it's so boring, fire the bitch already. you don't get so much of that BS on L&O

has anyone seen season of CI?
    ive been watching it,
and have to say the logan/barek episodes are great.
good to see the original homicide detective back in the show

Does this smile in my post - :D - indicate that he's talking about Vincent D'Onofrio and not Vince Vaughn? D'Onofrio plays Vaughn's brother in the movie and he really hams it up beautifully at times, if not to the live of the God-like Goren.

was not sure at first .. but after seeing a few I like the
alternating primary chars between episodes Goran/Eames
    then Logan/Barek.

The Logan/Barek combo is so different to the other two
    - he can get rough with supects and she is the slightly
unusual part of the team - talking to herself etc.

Looking forward to more of these.

It's still running alright, but they've changed it a bit. It's no longer Goran/Eames every week, they brought in Chris Noth (Logan from the original Law & Order) who is now in it every other week with his partner instead of the other two.
Haven't seen any, not sure I want to see Criminal Intent without D'Onofrio :(

CSI ftw...tho haven't seen much [read a full episode] of CSI: NY.

but L&O: SVU is without doubt some of the best tv viewing. That I rarely miss when I'm stateside.
