UFR takes place in a ring specifically constructed for MMA competition, 5 ropes instead of the usual 4 a boxing ring has and the ropes are closer together for fighter safety ,it is higher than the average boxing ring(31/2ft off the ground), so all spectators have a good view of the fights, high density foam under the canvas for fighter safety. Also the fights are relayed to 2 large viewing screens above the ring and also relayed to the fighters warm up area so they don't miss any of the action. We also have some very hot ring girls!!!!

I appreciate the offer, really, but I'd not intention on fighting again this year after RoT5, I've far too much on my plate. If you don't mind, I'll get back to you on a much later date?

I think the first 400 tickets where going to be £20 and the rest £25.
Although I got some tickets yesterday from the Devinish for £20.

Either way worst case your looking at £25.

    Martin.

one of the lads in the club were saying they were 40 pound/60 euro. I was seriously reconsidering come up. It's a lot of $$$. But 20/25 is doable. Not exactly cheap...:)

apologies to tom haddock and UFR for adrian's late withdrawl. he popped cartiliage under his ribs and tore his intercostal muscle. he's finding it hard to breathe so was in no condition to fight Tom. just glad to hear another opponent was found.

tom v hugh is going to be very interesting indeed, very even match up :)

£25 on the door,if your early enough you may still be able to get £20 tickets at the Devenish, not exactly expensive considering the quility of the fightcard and a total of 15 fights!!

UFR 7, The Halloween Brawl. October 29th 2006 Devenish Complex, Belfast

Just my opinion, thought I'd throw it out there.

Doors opened around 3.10. Entry was available on the door (25 pound) along with programmes (1) and some DVDs and Fight gear. About 1000 seats situated around a MMA ring in the centre of the room. Nice bar at the end. People smoking were told to abstain for the duration of the event and most seemed to. Mark Leonard was Mcing and despite the (reoccuring) problem with his MIC did a great job revving up the crowd and cracking a few jokes. The lovely round girl was back in all her glory. 3 different referees, Danny Doherty for the Semipro bouts, Aidan Marron for the pro bouts and Peter Lavery making his final appearance as a referee for the title bouts. Fights started around 4.10 and were over by 6.45. Crowds were fairly quiet except when one or two of the well supported lads were on show. Fairly generous and fair crowd to be honest. A lot of bodybuilders and tattoo canvases but all seemed cool.

Fight 1. ShaneT (Kokoro) vs Paddy 'Lollipop' Doherty (PCC) Semipro

The first question on your mind when these two guys entered the ring was, where did Shane get the orange clogs and where did Paddy get the nickname Lollipop. The clogs came from Holland, the 2Hot2Handle show and I don't know about the nickname.
First fight of the night and it wasn't without controversy. The bout opened with ShaneT throwing a couple of head height front kicks which seemed to startle his opponent. However, after a few punches were thrown they both found themselves in the clinch and then on the canvas. ShaneT went for some kind of toe hold/foot lock when I thought the opportunity was there to get side control of even mount, Lollipop didn't waste much time moving on the ground and got on top of ShaneT and took his arm for the armlock. The referee Danny Doherty was straight in to stop once the arm was extended much to the disappointment of ShaneT who felt the match was stopped prematurely as he didn't tap.

    Paddy Dohery, ArmBar Round 1.

Fight 2. Lawrence Osbourne (Kokoro) vs Manus Mullan (PCC) Semipro

Lawrence, with only 7/8 months training seems to be able to give Arni Iskasson a run for his money for quickest MMA learner. However, he got bit of a wake up call in the first few seconds of this fight as he walked into a big right from Mullan to the nose that pushed his head right back. However, he shrugged it off and went straight in the clinch then some leg and body kicks then more clinch then he pushed Manus' head down for the guillotine. The fight went to the ground with Lawrence on top with a tight guillotine. Mullan seemed to tap a couple of times before the referee noticed the submission and stopped the fight.

    Lawrence Osbourne, Guillotine Round 1.

Fight 3. Stephen McCombe (Sudden Impact) vs Tim McCrory (KMMA) Pro

The fight opened with an exchange of 3 or 4 punches that shook McCombe up and allowed McCrory in to reef on a guillotine. Game over.

    Tim McCrory, Guillotine Round 1.

Fight 4. Frans Muller (Kokoro) vs Mark O'Toole (Point Blank Submissions) SemiPro

Frans Muller was making his MMA SemiPro debut having had 2 fights in the Antrim leg of the MMAleague and a couple of years of Semi contact kickboxing a few years ago in South Africa. However, due to the withdrawal of James McClonkey (hmm that's not his name but it's something like that) from PCC and a withdrawal from Mark's fighter these two went at it at Semipro. Frans was unlucky to make his debut against Mark because Mark would be a very solid competitor, with experience in Muay Thai and grappling with Mark Leonard. He's had a couple of pro fights fighting Richie Moore in Ring of Truth and a couple of others too (think he fought at ROT3). Fight started well for Frans as he punched Mark across the ring with his “pony's head sized hands”(Mark Leonard, 2006). However, Mark was quick on the mark to put the end down and push Frans back and onto the ropes. Frans hooked one of Mark's legs to try and trip him but the shunt from the rope and a good twist and pull from Mark caused him to land in the mounted position with Mark on top. Mark wasted no time in chasing the arm and taking the arm bar.

Mark O'Toole Arm Bar Round 1.

Fight 5 Martin Begley (AMMA) vs (Jonny Doey) PCC

Anyone that's met Jonny Doey will say he's a lovely bloke and full of character. Well he confirmed this at UFR7 entertaining in a goblin mask. In fairness to Begley he wasn't fazed by it. This fight had loads of action from the start with Doey moving around throwing the punches and kicks with Begley doing the same, Doey however went for a takedown quazi-judo style and turned his back in to his opponent who very slickly hopped on top for the reak naked choke.

    Martin Begley, RNC Round 1.

Fight 6 Darrin Hughes (Sudden Impact) vs Kevin McAlonan (PCC)

All I remember from this fight is a hip throw then a Kimura.

    Kevin McAlonan, Kimura Round 1

Fight 7. Paul Murtagh (Sudden Impact) vs Stevie Lynch (PCC)

This was actually one of the most entertaining fights of the night. Paul Murtagh was tall and gangly compared to the broad squat Clubber Lang lookalike. Lynch moved with the gait, style and grace of Ali keeping his hands down, dodging the punches of Murtagh. Murtagh did well to avoid some of the punches Lynch was sending his way and when he was up on the ropes he did well to survive. Lynch looked like a class boxer and was composed enough not to over expose himself either. Throwing the combos then a few legs kicks he was really taking it to his taller, younger opponent. However, his limited reach didn't allow him to finish the match in the first round. Second round was more of the same, Lynch winning most of the striking battle, avoiding the clinch as Murtagh grew more desperate to take him down but all of a sudden he's on the ground whipping on an arm lock. Great stuff, best fight so far.

    Stevie Lynch, Arm Bar Round

Fight 8. Daniel Abrol (Chum Sut) vs Greg Loughran (PCC)

Well the previous fight was great to watch but a bit one sided. This one was very much one end to the other goal mouth action. Daniel Abrol, looked the complete Muay Thai competitor came straight out and pounced on Greg, jumping knees, lefts, rights, everything. And he caught him with an absolutely beauty and Greg fell, arms at his sides, looked to be Koed. I was shocked. But the barrage of punches seemed to bring Loughran to his senses and his experience was probably a great help as he managed not to take any further critical blows while on the ground by pushing and kicking Abrol with his feet. After a few seconds they were restarted on their feet with Loughran still looking a bit dazed. The fight continued with Abrol taking Loughran to the canvas and attempting to do damage from the guard. However, against the flow of the game, Loughran managed to get top on the ground and made no mistake in finished unleashing a barrage of accurate elbows and punches to Abrols head. Referee had to stop it, maybe he was even a bit slow to get in. Abrol afterwards was very wobbly getting up and had some notnice gashes on his head.

Greg Loughran, TKO Ground and Pound, Round 1

Fight 9 Hugh Fullerton (GBNI) vs Tom Haddock (PBS)

Due to Adrian Degorski's damaged rib there was a bit of a swap on the fight card and Tom Haddock found himself fighting Hugh. This bout looked to be like a Muay Thai against a Kick boxer. Haddock looked just as eager to trade on his feet as he was in taking the guy down and grappling. Eventually however they did move to the mat with Haddock first attempting a triangle before rolling into mount for the GnP TKO Stoppage.

Tom Haddock, TKO GnP, Round 1

    Fight 10

Peter Duncan (CBF) vs Emmet McNally (Sudden Impact)

This was actually one of the weirdest MMA fights I've seen. Almost instantly, the blue haired Duncan from England picks up McNally and Matt Hughes style carrys him from one side of the ring to the other for a big slam. But wasn't able to do much on the ground. Their next exchange on the feet ended with Duncan in a kind of guillotine by McNally in which Duncan very WWE style and very dangerously in my mind decided to backwards slam his way out, I think concussing himself in the process. From which he never recovered. The obviously dazed Duncan was then just going through the motions before McNally got a side choke or RNC .

    Emmet McNally, Choke, Round 1

Fight 11 Billy Harris (England) vs Mickey Young (PCC)

This was also a strange fight. Apparently Billy was full of talk before the fight about this and that. But anyway, during his fight nothing much went his way. He was announced as a former member of the English Under 21 judo squad, but his two attempts at foot sweeps, ko soto gari and ko uchi gari ended up with him in half guard with Mickey Young trying to bate his way through. The closest to a finish we say was a triangle attempt by Mickey Young in round 2. Anyway, Billy Judo didn't come out for Round 3 so Mickey Young won by withdrawal.

Mickey Young (opponent didn't come out for round 3)

Fight 12 Steve McCombe (PCC) vs Colin Neeson (IMMA) Bantamweight Title

This fight looked like it was going to be a cracker. But in fact it was over in about 30 seconds as McCombe just guillotined Neeson.

    Steve McCombe, Guillotine Round 1

Fight 13 Alex Owen (Team Savage, Bristol) vs Paul McVeigh (Dinky Ninjas SBG Scotland)

Ok this fight went 3 rounds. And obviously they were both good fighters. But I don't know if it was because I was hungry and tired or not but this fight was just a bit boring. Plenty of action on the ground, Paul McVeigh did well to take Owen to the ground in a strong position. Owen did well to kick from the bottom, actually catching McVeigh with a kick to the head while they were both grounded. I thought Owen was the more aggressive in terms of pushing the match but it was actually McVeigh that was closer to finishing, having some triangle and omoplata attempts. In the end the decision went Owen's way.

    Alex Owen, Decision

Fight 14 Jonny Shiels (IMMA) vs Geroid McNichol (PCC) Welterweight Title

A fairly closely contested battle but Geroid McNichol looking stronger and better over the 3 rounds deserved the unanimous decisoin 29-28, 29-28,29-28.

    Geroid McNichol, Decision.
