    But all answers gladly accepted..:D

    OK
I spoke with your friend * Noel Barret * on the phone just now about nitro in stock.

    This is what he has

    15% Coolpower
    25% coolpower

    20% Coolpower HELI
    30% Coolpower HELI..

    Guess which one I want.. :D

    Anyway.
The Heli stuff he reccomended to help keep the Engines cool as he said that a heli engine is enclosed and needs this to keep it cool so would be suited to the TRX engines.

He said the Heli ones are all Syntethic
I looked on the Morgan website and saw this chart

    Morgan fuel blends

I notice the 20% nitro one is quoted as being
    20% Nitro
    20% Lube
Viscosity Ultra High ( what does the viscosity part mean? )

    The 30% has
    30% nitro
    22% Lube
    and
    Viscosity LOW..!

Now the good part about these fuels is that I can buy them locally and at €30 a gallon...

That is Half what I paid for the 20% Tornado and had to drive to Limerick

    I know.
and that is for the Model Technics 16% ... Plus.. I would have to drive 60 Miles to Waterford for the MT16%.. whereas I only have to drive 22 miles for this stuff..;)

    Isnt Viscosity the thickness?

Which means, higher viscosity, less flow (like treacle?)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

Why cant they post the friggin stuff? Im sure there would be a country wide courrier willing to travel with the stuff!!

What do you need a carrier for ?
its only down the road from you..

So you are saying the 30% would be better as it is LOW viscosity?

    However
It may be that way when cold but look at the temps these engines reach?

Heat up some treacle in a pot on the oven and watch that stuff flow like water.. ;)

I need a carrier as I dont like noel barrats and would prefer 20% tornado!

as for the temp the engines reach, that aint the problem, its the flow to the engine, more compression would be used to force it up the fuel line!!!

As to wether or not this affects performance, I dont have a clue :P

Well unless Halfords open up in Cork I am afraid that Limerick is the closest to you.

    Now
at €60 a gallon and a drive to limerick
I think I would prefer to hand Noel €30 and get fuel that would be as good if not better.

There is a buddy of mine it the UK.
HUGE into TRX engines. absolutely swears by them
Said that he trashed two trx engines and it was deffo down to using Tornado fuel..:o

I must admit.. There is a lovely smell off it when the tmaxx passes by.. :D

You can buy smells to mix in with the nitro fuel, strawberry and the whole lot:)

Nice smell is probably down to the use of Castor Oil in the fuel. All racing bean oils smell really nice when they come out of the exhaust with a roar :-)

A good synthetic will lube and cool better than castor, but only a good one.

But if you overheat your engine for any reason (30% nitro ?) the synthetic gives less protection than castor while the ultra hight temp is reached.

Coolpower is a good fuel, but we prefer Model Technics (the Go Glo Plus blend) mainly because it is €30 a true gallon container but the coolpower is a much smaller bottle for about the same price. So we consider Coolpower a bit dear. Good tho. Did Noel mention Omega? I heard he was doing that also.

But Tornado - well that breaks all price records! That price is unjustified, except on the basis of what people may pay in the time before they are pushed out of the hobby. The "churn em and burn em policy".

I would expect you will find that any heli fuel gives similar results as "car" fuel, when you use it. Why don't you try some?

    No,
I dont think he mentioned Omega..

    So, Maybe I try a gallon of 20% ?

You see the main reason for going down this road is convenience.
If I could get the 20% Blue Thunder race Formula local then that is the one I would buy.

    Actually.
I do have a friend that has some 15% (green) Coolpower.
I might get a couple of tankfulls to try.;)

I bought omega from noel last year for my tmaxx, ran ok!!!

As for knowing about monster trucks, one of his guys recommended I never run more than 5%, as I could damage the engine!!!!

He was shocked when I said it suggested running 20%!

    LOL :D
Just as well I didnt go in looking for 25% so then. He would have Keeled over with shock

Could you not get something in an engineering shop ?
    or somewhere like that?

Maybe your "friend" Noel Barret might have something?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

Noel didnt have engine head screws, so I doubt if he has engine mount screws!

I dont know the shop in waterford!

I found a UK site with them in stock :
    http://www.microtechracing.com/code/products.asp?recid=7808&subcatid=215
    £2.08 for the screws
£9 for delivery to south Ireland :O
This is just taking the piss!!

Might try and get them delivered to the sister in london and forwarded, would take an extra 2 days but would be a hell of a lot cheaper (£1 to ship to uk mainland)

I emailed microtech yesterday, compalining about the price, and here is the response:
    Hi,

That is a generic charge, and had to include the shipping cost for a bodyshell. We can ship a pack of screws to you for £1.30. If you want to order please do so online (with the charge) and we will refund the difference when we process the transaction.

That seems to be a very complicated way of doing things.
An Irish car supplier would have them to you, 48c postage, the next day.
Why go abroad for something as simple as screws?
Not to save money - since they cost less in Ireland than abroad.

The only reason is that they are traxxas parts, and not many irish suppliers stock traxxas parts!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

Yo coolwings, any chance of having a work with greehobby and asking them to become the Irish traxxas representative?

Would be handy for all us bashers out there!

I was thinking of that today aswel, good idea;)

I thought of that too, but I (I'm guessing here) think if you went into the likes of Noel Barrett (decent model shop who doesn't do Traxxas AFAIK) and ask "Do you have Traxxas part number 12345 he will say "sorry, can't help"
But if instead, you were to say I have a Traxxas engine and need cylinder head mounting bolts, they're steel, M3 thread, socket or philips head, and 30mm long. I bet he would say " Hey that's the same as the OS or whatever make, I have some here...."

    See what I mean.
these models all have 80% generic parts that are the same from make to make.
It's usually only the moulded plastic, or formed steel parts , that are unique from any particulare model.
