Finally got around to looking at my OS18 revo engine, And I think I know whats wrong with it!!!!

The Problem, Woudl start up but would not stay running, and sounded rough!!!

Have given it a thorough look over and the only problem seems to be missing rubber seals on the exhaust making it useless???

    O.S. Exhaust Seal O-Ring

Would it be something as small as this causing all my problems???

And if it is, goddamn, I just ordered a 3.3 engine this morning :s

yes, that would cause an air leak in the engine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,149 ✭✭✭BFassassin

you would not be getting full compression in the engine. at least you know that there is nothing major wrong with the engine and you can always sell it or the new 3.3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

If only I had the time to look BEFORE buying the 3.3 ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

there both great engines, the os engine I would think is more reliable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

That would definetly cause a loss of compression, I mean have you ever tried to pullstart an engine when the exhaust is not properly connected to the engine....... it almost feels like there's no plug in the engine.
*edit* revo and t-maxx owners might as well ignore that comment as they have easi-start? and some hpi medels have rotostart. Though anyone using a pull starter will know what I mean.

if its like pulling the pull start when tehres no plug, yes, yes i do!

Theres alot more things to check than just that:
    1)fuel lines
    2)tank
3)cooling head(where the plug goes in and where it's joined to the crackcase)
    4)back plate
5)Where the pipe joins to the manifold.
    Check these all first;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

Plug, I checked the engine for compression before, just forgot all about the manifold seal, bought this truck as is and it was in a non running fashion!!

Reason it took so long to figure out is because of the way it was when i got it!!

Imagine taking a revo down to seperate parts, then getting someone with no idea about them to rebuild it without a manual!!!!

thats basically the way I bought it (From another boards user no less :O )

Dont worry blahblah, I wont tell em it was you ;)

3 out 4 people try rebuilding, but theres always 1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

This was reassembled, with the gearbox MASHED together the wrong way, diffs were reversed so wheels spun in opposite directions, brakes were locked tight, throttle was non responsive, the steering was crossed, need i say more?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

oh yes, you need to say more

    Ermm..
    Maybe you made a mistake..
I think if you put al those "SPARES" together you would end up with a Revo.. :D

    Nah, no second chassis ;)

Sounded like it was in some mess when you got it..
Was it meant to be new?
Hopefully you got it cheap enough to cover the bother you had with it.. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

For what i got it was reasonable!

Thing has a roll cage and alu arms and mounts/rockers as well!

Actually, 2 rollcages, one full and one small rollcage!

now that you will have 2 engines, you can have a second revo- just gtet the parts needed and build it up over whatever lenght of time. you will have 2 very good powerful revos :D

Might not be a bad idea Slim.;)

Sell one off to cover your costs.

To do that, I would have to go through boxes and sort out all the stuff :s

    Maybe next year ;)

But if you do it bit by bit it would be worth it eventually.

Are you gonna use the os18?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

Il probably try out the OS18, saves me breaking in the 3.3 (instant gratification ;) )

Have ordered the seal from tower hobbies, shipped last night, whats the average wait time with tower for small packages shipped via International Surface?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

    I would guess a week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

That aint too bad, was waiting 6 weeks the last time i ordered a truck from there :S

    Good idea
Try the os18 for a few days.
    Then break in the 3.3.
I would say you will need at least 10 tanks to free these engines up..mine kept getting stuck on TDC for about 5 or 6 tanks.. It is perfect now ans had massive power last night..
    Then compare both engines.;)

Well, I ordered the extra "A" arms last week,
They got shipped out on the 13th
    Havent arrived yet.;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,248 ✭✭✭Plug

Exactly 1 week it should arrive.

Would it take 10 tanks, the os18 should already be broken in, just aint been used in a while!!!

As for the 3.3, you got any videos of it running yet?

Just noticed today that the new revo charger also charges the starter packs as well as the onboard hump pack, nice ;)

    Thats only the 3.3 tho.

The recommended break in is only 5 tanks in a 3.3?

    Same as the 2.5

    Yes, I know
But what I meant was ..give it an extra couple to be on the safe side..then just dont gun it until tank 10..
Thats what I did with both my 2.5r and my 3.3
then after another tank or two they seemd to burst into life and still getting better tank by tank..
That 2.5r in my sons Maxx is a flier of a thing.;)
    Slim19198 wrote:

Nothing really of it since it was run in.
Will get a couple next night out.;)

I ordered the 3.3 last week, got new easy start, easy start motor, wiring harness, tuned pipe and manifold, and screw set (wanted it all to look new and shiny)

Then decided my Hexs were not up to scratch as were not ball hexs, so ordered a set of ball hexs...

Then saw that the new revo 3.3 charger can charge starter packs as well as hump packs (mine can only do hump packs!) so, ordered one....

Then realised most of this was coming from the states and this might be the only time of the year I have to play with RC, and as I have no running truck at the moment, ordered an Xmod from the UK!!!

Goddamn ebay and paypal, I really hate them! ;)
