Really? This'll probably be its first year of selling out in twenty odd years.

I'm flying to Eindhoven a few days before then getting the train down... Ministry top my list. Them and Fear Factory back-to-back will be painful!

    Oh Really, Eindhoven Hmm.

I would have thought it would be nearer to charleroi, are you sure Eindhhovem is better?

How far is it from Amsterdam on a side-note?

Eindhoven is actually nearer to Hasselt than Charleroi, but with only one or two train routes into Belgium you have to make a slightly longer detour. Plus, you have to pay for your train until you reach the Belgian border (isn't that much though).

Still, Eindhoven's a great little place. Vibrant, nice pubs/coffee shops, and there's always something to keep ye occupied.

I actually travelled from Amsterdam last year... if all your train departures connect at the right times then you would be looking at four hours travel minimum.

yeah its a great lineup not going myself due to other commiments but so reasonable for who u get to see
One's 2 watch there:DP of course, Tiga, Hot Chip, Cassuis(DJ Set), Digitalism , Justice..............pretty nice lineup and so reasonable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

I pretty much knows who I'm going to see now but I'm not all up on me dance/electronica. I'm definetly planning to see The Knife, DJ Shadow, Massive Attack, Daft Punk... anyone else who I should at least consider? Is Tiga any good?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 337 ✭✭odhran

I have heard very good things about Tiga. Personally I've only heard some of his music and it seems to be rather good.

Wow very nice line up, never even heard of this festival. Might be something to look at for next year, whats the setup like anyone who has been there before?

    Very nice.

There were eight stages: two outdoor, six indoor. Unfortunetly, they have axed the Chateau this year... it was like the Olympia minaturised to a tent. Seven stages is more than enough though really.

The camping grounds are just across the road from the venue, none of this campsite A and campsite Z to my recollection.

If you like those Magic the Gathering cards they have a stall there... I think they're one of the sponsors. Some Belgian dude tried to explain it to me last year but the whole game went completely over me head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,080 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

Whats prices like at the festival and are the camping facilities good? Whats their policy on alcohol in the festival grounds and finally Whats the travel time like from Charleroi?

Is there some other big festival in Belgium or is the one I'm thinking of?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

I think a beer is €1.50. It's in a small cup though. It's also Maes... not the best Belgium has to offer. Food is the same festival junk, but you can easily stock up on stuff in Hasselt. Camping facilities were grand from what I saw/used.

No bringin' in alcohol to the festival grounds but you can sneak some in easily enough. Just don't bring any glass bottles.

I believe travel time from Charleroi is two hours and a bit but I'm not entirely sure.

The other Belgian festival you're thinking of is probably Rock Werchter.

Yeh the thing is, when i showed most people the line up they say they would have loved to have gone but they had already gone too oxegen or had bought their tickets for Radiohead, EP or Daft Punk. If only I had of found out about this earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Bah, now they've gone and clashed Sick of It All with Radiohead.

Anyone listened to Nouvelle Vague? Very odd bossanova cover band.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 337 ✭✭odhran

They've just released a covers record, haven't they? They sound pretty decent to me...

    All their material is covers
The various female singers on Nouvelle Vague only performed songs they were not previously familiar with, to ensure that each cover would have a unique quality.

They were on the bill to play EP last year but for some reason pulled out, defo gonna catch them at Pukkelpop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Yeah, I suppose they'll be interesting enough to watch.

I might even go to The Frames on Saturday for the laugh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭Mr Rivers

for the laugh? Ya know ya wanna see The Frames! ;)

I aint a huge fan but they're great for the time slot they're in and seeing them with at a non-irish festival will be interesting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

I dunno... Martha Wainwright ain't actually that bad. But I'd say I'll use that timeslot to take a breather.

Really, if you haven't added in a few beer breaks to your schedule, do so now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 488 ✭✭ellenmelon

wowza, that lineup looks fricking excellent.
screw the big irish festivals! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭peejay01

hey guys did anyone get an email about them keeping your tickets at the box office (at the festival entrance) and refunding the delivery fee??

As I understand it the ticket allows you to travel free on second class NMBS trains. Do ya reckon a receipt for payments of tickets will do or if you had to pay for the train that they would reimburse you?

Ive emailed them already and im still waiting on a response.

Nearly a week to go. I'll have to pull out the tent.

Anyone seen Turbonegro before? I always thought they were a bit crap but if they're fun I might enjoy them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭peejay01

****e gotta pay for the trains on the way over.not long to go now.i see martha wainwright pulled her whole european tour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭markcellardoor

just a few days to go now. Gonna be my 3rd festival. Not looking forward to trains and **** but this line up is good. back on the Sunday and seeing Daft Punk again on the Friday. woo. any tips on anyone going from chareloi to Kieweit. is there trains yeah from there or am i better off going into brussels first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭peejay01

theres no direct trains from cherleroi but there is one from cherleroi sud with one change of train that takes two and a half hours.travelling to brussels and then on to kiewit would prob take longer waiting on trains and that.

anyone know if ya can get drink in kiewit?is it a little town or what??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

The place where the train drops you off is a motorway. There's a petrol station, a (deadly) bakery and a bunch of stalls along the sides. Free buses into Hasselt so ye might want to trek in to stock up on beer, could be significantly cheaper being away from festival zone.

Aye - music's not great but they're good showmen.

Best way to get there is to get the train from the airport to Leuven and change there for the train to Kiewt. www.bahn.de for train info.

My experience of continental fesitavals is that food and drink is reasonably priced, so I wouldn't get too hung up on booze aquisition - just pick up a bottle of spirit at the duty free on the way out.

yeahhhhhhhhh cant wait headin off in the mornin!!!!!

just relaxing after that madness that was pukkelpop.really enjoyed it but there was a few let downs eg some bands, crowd participation in general and a few head wreckers on the camp site.

overall though it was really well organised and belgium is so easy to get around.

highlights for me were the frames, radiohead and keane.

What the rest of ye think of it??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

Probably met you's there at some point! Campsite was good (apart from the saturday night riot) but there was a lack of atmosphere at most of the bands.

Coheed & Cambria, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Sick of it All were my highlights. Didn't think much of Radiohead TBH, and was surprised by how much the crowd got into the Frames, who were much improved since the last time I'd seen them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Daft Punk were the act of the weekend for me. Amazing stuff and a perfect finish to the fest. Other highlights were DJ Shadow, Millencolin, and Ministry... and they all had great atmosphere.

Heard the weather reports was going to be rain but thankfully it was sunny for the majority of the weekend.

Was anyone on the Ryanair flight back home from Charleroi on Sunday? Someone stole a bottle of wine or something?

be your own PET were definatley the best band for me. The crowd went absolutley mental, for once. Plus the lead singer spat her water all over me, I haven`t washed since!

I`m really annoyed at myself though, during Daft Punk I was just running around not paying any attention to them due to my drunkeness. I found myself humming the tunes on the way back and then it hit me! I couldn`t even remember seeing them. So I`m going to see them on Friday for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Be Your Own Pet kicked Yeah Yeah Yeahs to the turf.

The latter didn't convince me at Pukkelpop... although they have a great drummer.

Yeh I heard about that, fortunelty enough it didn`t effect me at all.

Am I imgining things but wwere The Subways on the original line up?

I know what ya mean beau.We got soaked watchin the Arctic Monkeys (who were the worst band I saw there) and then went to the the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (quality) then went home to get into some dry clothes and fell asleep.

I woke up to the sound of Daft Punk absolutely kickin.I could hear everything from the tent perfectly.

Anyone have an Ireland flag stolen on them??Mine was taken on the sat nite. Was really annoyed with that!

    Yellow,
Anyone at Pukklepop that saw any acts that are playing the Picnic? Who was good/bad/unmissable????

    Enlighten....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭holland501

P.s. Also want to know how good Radiohead and Daft Punk were.

    What tunes did D.P. play?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭markcellardoor

holland501, massive attack were excellent last friday, one of the most atmospheric sets i've seen in a long time. Inertia Creeps was defo a highlight.

Radiohead played a mix of old and new and the lighting was incredible. they played for a good 2 hours too, which was strange enough for a festival.

Daft Punk finished the festival in style. The famous pyramid stage had amazing lighting which blew pretty much everyone away. They played all their big numbers which were mixed up together with a couple of surprises.
the belgians were the most passive crowd though and didn't jump around like the irish that were there. (very nice people though)

good times ahead from sept 1st on :)
