I might investigate once this opens on a weekend home. I'm sure Mick will update the forum here when he visits (hint hint).

    It's all about timing! :)

Will report back once I'm issued with my press pass and free tourney entry fees.

One thing's for sure, it will be a busy spot with all those Donegal boys nearby and plenty of card players around, even if it's mostly 25's:)

Looking forward to this, Am a regular player (and winner) :D on the sligo scene, I'd be interested in hearing about the structure of the tournaments and also cash games / rake.

Would also be interested in dealing as I live just up the road from where this is going to be going live.

    Will email you with details.

Dublin should become a city-state.That would sort you lot out,you would have to sort out a little economy and us Dubs would no longer have to prop you up.

we would like to find out first what tournaments already take place in the area so we can work around them, if you know of any please drop me a line.

    Thanks

Haven't had a chance to make it down to sligo yet, hope to get down in a couple of weeks, will report back when I do...

Went over one of the nights at the weekend, was very impressed with it, looks really well and is very comfy....big leather seats for all the players and the tables are very nice as well, its pretty spacious too and well air conditioned

My one problem with it is its rake, I assume the S.E is the same (same owner?) but there is no actual rake per pot, only every player has to pay €5 rake every half an hour....thats very off puttin for me, if you intend playin for 4-5 hours, expect to pay €50 just to play...(winning or losing!)

When asked why not rake the pots instead, its "extremely illegal to operate like that"!

Apart from that its a very nice spot and I would defo recommend checkin it out

This will become standard. Used in many cardrooms in USA. It is a business transaction. IE you are 'hiring' the seat/table/chips/dealer from the cardroom. Easy to defend against the McDowell types.

Interesting..... Its a pity this wll be the norm

being card dead has just got more expensive :D !

see any tournie schedule while you were there BP?

How many hands can you expect per half and hour ? You wouldn't want to be sitting with some slow bucker, he would be costing everyone at the table money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭Bp!

    Hey Joey,

I didnt actually see any tourney schedule but the floor staff were asking the players at the tables what kind of tournament they would like on Sunday... I think they decided on a €100/€150 freezeout so maybe they are in the process of drawing up their schedules.

At a guess Id say a hand was being played every 2 1/2 to 3 mins so about 9 or 10 hands per block...

will be in sligo next week and would luv to check it out,any chance of an address?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,501 ✭✭✭BrokenArrows

what cash games do they offer. Is it 1/2 NL/POT etc.

    Where is it anyway??

Finally something to do in sligo rather than drink. That is once i get back from australia.

To me the 5e per 1/2 hour does not seem too bad. Thats cause im used to $1 per hand on the australian 5/5 tables and $30 per hour on the 5/10/10 tables.

where is this located any one. i see they have a 250 freeze out this sunday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,212 ✭✭✭MrPillowTalk

tenner an hour is quite reasonable for rake in a cardroom granted the dealers are decent

I don't understand how this is decent, you'd have to be making 5BB/hour to just break even. Also you're not likely to get more than 20-30 hands/hour. I went in there and left after about 2 1/2 hours and was up €30, but i had to pay €20 to make that €30!

Is 10% rake not a better idea, since the winning player only is taxed?

10% rake is better for the losing players

if your a winner you should be chuffed with paying table time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 590 ✭✭✭bman

Yeah, but your not going to be chuffed if your a winning player paying more in table charges than you would in rake anyway!

then your not winning enough, a % rake levies itself on whoever is winning which is not fair at all, table time spreads the cost evenly.

I was home from Manchester a couple of weeks ago and had heard all about it from some ofthe bhiys at home.

I was expecting some half arsed effort with the tables knocked together by a local carpenter, wooden stools just a couple of notches up from a home game.

How wrong was I - tbh I was blown away, really impressed - the tables are perfect, great comfortable chair, pro staff who really know what they are doing, good food and drink service, good standard of play etc etc etc

I couldnt praise the place more - I will be straight down there next time I am home and would recommend that anyone who is into poker/black jack/roulette and is in the northwest gets down there.

Congratulations!!! 5 gold stars and a big correct

Popped down last night to check this out. €20 ReBuy

Finished 3rd, Buddy of mine 2nd.

Casino is very nice, lovely tables, nice leather chairs for players.

6 Poker tables and the usual house games, which are proving immensely popular with the chinese community of the North West. I never seen so much money being played on a roulette wheel my a family of about 18 chinese people .... I kid you not, that croupier was extremely business last night for a good 5 hours, and I left at 2.15 and they were not going to bed !

Poker standard was pretty terrible during the re-buy period, the worst I ever seen actually, the Celtic Tiger must have arrived in Sligo cos the €20's were certainly being circulated big time, as it was a complete all-in fest right from the word 'go'.

The last 6 or 7 players were decent enough, and I'll certainly be back.

Suggestion for management .... I'd swap that €20 rebuy game, and replace it with a 'fitz' style freeroll with €10 rebuys, and put all that income towards tickets for your monthly €250 game. From what I seen last night, you'll have 4 or 5 tickets every Monday easy enough.
You'll get a bigger crowd, and gives you a great recruitment tournament, and the better players will at least know that the money is going into tickets....and your cash games will be busier...and earlier.

Anyone down the North West, this casino is well worth a visit.

I must give this a try some night. What is the best night for tournaments with a buy in for around €50 and I would prefer double chance or a freezeout?

I was playing in Ardara last Friday at a €50 Double Chance tournament (which was pretty good I have to say) and someone was saying that there is plans for at least one casino to be opened in Letterkenny soon. Anyone hear anything about this?

I heard the same about Letterkenny, it may even be open already.

In Sligo .... €70 FO Thursday, €50 FO Friday, €100 FO Sunday (I think), and €20 RB Monday I think is the schedule ...just cash on Saturday.
