Spinning and HIIT Principles

I have been reading about HIIT principles on this site for a while. I would be a gym goer but would do a solid hour of cardio. I am well aware that HIIT workouts would do me a lot of good.

One of the segments in yesterday's Spin class involved 5 minutes of 30 seconds as fast as you can go and then 30 seconds of not so fast.

I would be quite fit but have never been able for Spin classes. They are incredibly hard and leave me drained for two days.

From my reading I wonder do Spin Classes incorporate any of the HIIT principles.

    Can anyone enlighten me?
