the arena/UL area is one of the best sporting area's in ireland.
a 50m pool, 200m indoor track, indoor 60m sprint track, 4 indooor basketball courts, 2 full eleiko weightlifting sets, sauna, steamroom, contrast showers.
    I love the place...

I train in ul arena. I think it’s a good gym. As "because I can" said there are a lot of facilities there and its relative quite during the summer. I don’t know the gym your on about in town but there is also jjb near ul. I don’t know what that is like though. Hope this helps.

Think it may be Crunch you're referring to.

The Arena is excellent, but is packed between 6 and 9 most evenings.

Is there much actual weightlifting in this UL gym? Is there a club or lifters of good ability training there? Or are the eleiko sets just for rugby players etc?

Ah the standard's ok. It's only home to the best lifter in Ireland at the moment like.

Ok, thats a good standard obviously. But would it just be one exceptional individual training there on his own? Or would there also be a coach and some other decent lifters?

well weightlifter ul has more than one top weightlifter in its halls... there is a decent weightlifting club and the lads do some one on one personal training also...theres 2 platforms there now around 8 bars including the 2 powerlifting bars and the 25kg bar...there is around 5-600 kg of plates with the platforms..we have often had 3 bars loaded on each platform and not had a shortage of plates.. if you want any more details drop me a pm and ill be glad to help out...

I was going to start a thread about which baordsies train in ul:) it it is packed most evenings but since they moved the mirrors we usually have the platroms to ourselves without any bother...also new set of jerk blocks are there now..there handy out..eack platform also has a set of decent squat racks with it..

    What's a "decent" level?

    What level are you at?

I can't comment as to the coaching down there because I don't know, but I do know there's a few good lifters and a few up and comers down there who'd probably be willing to lend a hand if you asked nicely!
