Sauna & Steamroom... Do they affect muscle growth?

Hi all... probably a very stupid question but here goes anyway...

I'm on a new gym programme... trying to build muscle. After each workout I hit the stema room and sauna for a combined total of about 40 - 45 minutes (cold showers and ice room in between).

Will this have any effect on muscle growth? Is it better to avoid the sauna / stemaroom after workout designed to build muscle?

    Thanks i advance

The main factors affecting muscle growth are sleep/rest and nutrition, along with proper excercise of course!

Its good to incorporate the sauna/steamroom/Jacuzzi into your routine.

Ive never come home sore or in any pain after using the Suana and Steamroom.
Even the next day I wont feel anything other than the usual feeling. I dont
even feel like having to get away from my desk to stretch my calfs during work.
This normally happens if I skip the Sauna and SR.

Saying that now, I do a full stretch out and go for a swim (two lengths )
and then hit the sauna and steam room. But without the sauna and SR I would
feel it either that night or the next day.

So to answer your question, no. Not in a direct way. Without the Sauna and
Steamroom I couldnt do as much so I dont think I could keep my muscles in
the shape they are. Or months ago, I dont think I could of brought them into
the shape they are so quick if I hadnt of used the S+SR.

Totally offtopic: I had a bad pimple on my nose and the steamroom was great
for bringing it down in size ;)

just a quick point, if you spend 40-45 in the sauna and steam room after a muscle building work out, it would be a VERY good idea to get some food into you first before you hit the sauna. waiting 40-45 minutes after the workout is a long time in terms of your bodies need for nutrition after mass building exercies.

Good point... what do you suggest? I usually have a whey protien drink within a few hours of my workout finishing. Is this too late?

A few hours is way way too late. Ideally you want to get your protein supp into you withing 20mins of your workout. The earlier you get it into you the quicker and better your muscles can repair themselves. Basically the reason being when your building muscles lifting weights your actually tearing muscle tissue in order to build more of it. When you stop your muscles try to repair themselves and built the new tissue. If you get your supp into you straight away you are giving a massive boost to your regeneration process and growth process also.
