    Hi

I go for a jog after work (but before evening meal) Shoud I eat a small lunch, or big lunch for energy ?

Should I drink water in the afternoon to hydrate up or will this just stick in my stomach ?

Are there some generally accepted guidelines in relation to food / drink for jogging ?

    Cheers

    How long of a jog.

Generally I don't like eating anything remotely heavy 90mins before exercise.

Trial and error works for me. Generally take in 3 litres of water a day, and 4-5 when exercising.

Length of jog depends on how tired I am - minimum 5 miles, max 8 miles.

I will have to up my water intake considerably - I would be lucky to drink a litre a day.

generally have a sambo for lunch, but trying to get a better time, so all helps!

you should have your normal lunch then have something 1.5-2 hours before you run, an energy bar, cereal, bagel or whatever. drink plenty of water but experiment to see how close to the run you can drink without needing toliet stops.

all this varies from person to person. some can eat closer to run with no issues some can't eat solids at all within 3 hours of a run..

Its funny, about two weeks ago I scoffed two packs of Walkers salt and vinegar crisps. Then my mate rang and asked would I fancy a jog, I ended up going and I had one of the best jogs of my life, I felt great. I dont recommend doing this and I havent done it since but I just though it was funny. Theres other times Id have a bowl of all natural high quality muesli, a bannana and water 1.5 hours before my jog and Id feel crap.

P.S. Its a bit like Ricky Hatton. Everymorning of a fight he scoffs a huge full english breakfast frm his local cafe. I thought that was madness eating all that saturated fat and grease on the day of a fight but it seems to work for him.
