    McCambridge Bread is the best.

Who says carbs are bad? You need them for energy!

Yeh generally, white refined carbs are bad but can be of some use to people wanting pack on weight.

It really depends on what your goals are, but always natural non man-made carbs are generally better for your health

carbs have been unjustly getting a huge amount of bad press in recent years. To put it as simply as possible, carbs are one of three main groups of macronutirents that all foods come under: protein, fat and carbs. All three are necessary for healthy growth and development and each has their own role in the body. Carbohydrates are essentially our main source of energy.

There's different types of carbs but very, very simply put theres simple and complex carbs. Simple ones (like sugar) are easily broken down and used quickly for fuel (such as a glucose drink). Complex carbs give slow release enrgy (like wholegrains which take longer for the body to digest).

So, in the case of a bread, a food which is mostly carbohydrate, you want to opt for one that is high in complex carbs- wholegrains, nuts, seeds etc. As said, McCambridge's stoneground bread is great, but so long as the label says 100% wholemeal it should be fine. This way the bread will leave you fuller for longer and is generally higher in nutriiotnal content.

Oh and also check the label for hydrogenated fat- some brands use it to prolong the shelf life of their bread, but its nasty, nasty stuff so avoid at all costs.

G'em has an excellent point….most of the information that the general public will get is very faddy. Atkins made fatty foods famous, the Hollywood diet said grapefruits were good for fat loss, Paleo says grains suck.

Unless you dig deep and learn what each macronutrient actually does in your body it's all just guess work. And until you experiment ON YOURSELF and pay close attention to bodyfat, strenght, lean muscle gain, how you feel, general health, immune system strenght etc then it will always be hit and miss.

You need to find out what works for you. There is no point in reading a book and saying, "Right, that’s what I will do." You need to adopt a plan and pay close attention to the results, from then on you need to make small changes, so you can find what works for you. Massive changes ever 3 to 4 weeks means you will simply never eliminate whats is truly bad for you, as opposed to what some book is telling you should be bad for you.

Much like Dave said earlier, starchy carbs are not my friend. That just means I get to chow down on lots of fruit and veg though, so I won't complain!!!! This took me a lot of time to figure out but it was worth it.
