    Hello,

I am thinking of going on a vegetarian Diet for a while for personal reasons and wondered if it would effect any areas of fitness in a negative way. WOuld it be harder to build up muscle without a meaty diet?

    Thanks.

not bad if you go about it the right way! youd have to be willing to take supplements! whether they are throuh tofu or protein shakes or similar though! and you will need more since you will have a low amount in your diet...you can make up for it!!!
but can i ask why you would go on a vege diet for a while anyway? like a while implys you will be cuming back to meat etc...so why stop?

It was more pesimism than anything else. I am gonna try to make the transition to Veggie, via a month trial, out of guilt mainly. I said "Personal Reasons" as I did not want to start an ethical debate (and still don't). Thanks for the advise.

if you are going veggie rather then vegan, i.e. are you going to still take dairy products), if you are going to only be a veggie then i would invest in soem whey protein to help supplement the protein you are going to lose from meat, remember try and get protein from as many different sources though as possible like eggs etc.
Also with cutting out meat you are may also end up cutting down on your fat intake so make sure you are getting fat from other sources

peanut butter would be great for fat and protein mix!

look up www.mikemahler.com, he's a vegan strength & conditioning trainer & has some good articles on eating if you're a vegan trainee (I know you're not going vegan but the relevance will still be there).

Like jsb said, saturated fat intake will tend to be low so get in some dairy or cocunut milk, avocados n' such.

Many of the protein containing plants do not have complete protein spectrums (i.e. all the essential aminos), however they can be combined to give a full spectrum. I'm not sure what those combinations are but a search around mike's website will probably tell you.
