I'm pretty sure the amount of pleasure I derived from that have ensured my spot in hell. Eh, it was worth it.

    <College Safety Officer>,

It appears to me that there are regular contraventions of both official College policy and state legislation with regard to the smoking of tobacco. The locations of these contraventions are:

    (i) the roofed area at the main entrance to the Arts and Social Sciences Building, to the south of the main ramp, but north of the automatic doors.

(ii) the "sheltered" area at the alternative entrance area to the Arts and Social Sciences Building, with access to the Lower Concourse of said building, between the coffee shop and the Lecky Library.

The TCD website states that "Under the Tobacco Smoking (Prohibition) Regulations, 2003, tobacco smoking in College buildings and enclosed workplaces is prohibited with the exception of bedrooms in College Residences." Thus it appears to me that smoking is certainly forbidden in the area defined in (i).

With regards to the area defined in (ii), I am reliably informed that it, too, comes under the remit of Section 16 of the Public Health (Tobacco) (Amendment) Act 2004.

This contravention is most notable when it is raining and those who take shelter under or pass through areas (i) or (ii) are subject to second-hand smoke. Furthermore, if either or both of these places are determined to be a place of work - perhaps of Buildings Office or Security staff - the College may be liable to fines of up to €3,000 per contravention.

If such concerns are under the remit of the College Safety Officer, would it be possible for you to attempt to cease the activities of smoking within these
    confined spaces?

    Kind Regards,
    Ibid

Pedantic but I agree. It's amazing how smoky it can get around the arts block ramp and how much of it sticks to you when you just walk through there to get on/off campus.

I interviewed the College Safety Officer for the Record when the smoking ban first came in, and one of the points he raised was how difficult it was to police the Arts Block ramp. There are signs up (or at least, there were) but it needs security to move people on from the area to put an end to it. Cos it is horrible.

Anyway, back o/t. Smashing Pumpkins - Today. On repeat. For the past few days.

Thanks a lot, Laika, now I'm going to have to plug in my guitar and start playing that.

    You can play it?

    /swoons

My cack-handed piano version isn't exactly setting the world alight.

Oh, and just to kill any possible cool factor I may have unintentionally gained on this board, I'm currently watching this, one of my top 3 Britney songs of all time.

Meh, who cares how easy it is, it's one of the best SP songs and I <3 it.

As do I; in fact, I love that entire album like an adopted child. Adopted, because I didn't make the album, but if I could make a great album, Siamese Dream is a lot like how I'd want it to be.

Of course, this does not mean that we should adopt children who we think reflect our best qualities..

I haven't slept since Saturday night, so I'll stop talking now.

To bad that song sucks though. I was listening to Gish today for the first time in ages, god it's such a mediocre album! Good thing they played a blinder for the next few albums.
