I am an external examiner for FETAC and they should be at your centres by now. Make sure that the centres send them out....sometimes people go on holidays and they are left in the office!!!
    Good luck all!

PowerHouseDan did you use your FETAC award to get into that degree course? When does the CAO send out offers to FETAC applicants? They aren't very clear about it on their website and I'm waiting for offers myself.

Why? isnt the thread just as relevant today? as hundreds of students will have received their fetac results today, i don't see how "dragging up old threads" has anything to do with the matter at hand.

I'd ring your College to get clarification on that front. It's not really related to your question but there was a guy in our course who failed a few of his modules the previous year but still repeated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,753 ✭✭✭CZ 453

I think repeating will depend on your course.I did psychology for a year and i was told repeats are next year. Not that ill need to......ha ha.Ring the course co ordinator. As for results,i didnt get mine yet

No your college will provide the central applications office with your results and then they will send u out the offers for whatever course you have applied to do. I'm gonna ring my college again tomorrow to see what the story is with my results!

I am having problems working out my points. Fetac say to add up your best 8 and cao say add up your best 6. Does anybody know what is right ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 52 ✭✭Nelly2

For CAO it's best 6 Leaving Cert subjects! Not too sure bout FETAC but presume it's results of 8 modules, as 8 modules=Cert.

Ok folks just to clear up confusion

    1. FETAC results are sent by FETAC to the CAO and the college in which you completed your FETAC award has nothing to do with who gets a place (unless it is a reserved linked course only between your FE college and the Higher Education Institute and that only normally applies for non-FETAC courses) so you are treated like the Leaving Cert applicants ie on your results. FETAC results date varies each year but as soon as FETAC send them out to your FE college, you should get them very quickly. But you dont have to send them to the CAO.

    2. There are two systems running that FETAC applicants can use - it depends on the course that you applying to as to what scheme you fall into. The schemes are 1) Higher Education Links Scheme 2) Pilot Scheme

    3. FETAC offers for the reserved places via the Higher Education Links Scheme are offered prior to the Leaving Cert students getting their offers. Points for students using this schemes are 3 points for a Distinction, 2 points for a Merit, 1 point for a Pass. This scheme is usually used for Level 7 or 8 degrees in the Universities.

    4. Students who are using the pilot scheme offered by FETAC compete against Leaving Cert students for places on the course - this is normally only in the case of Level 6 or 7 courses in the Institutes of Technology.
FETAC applicants can obtain a maximum of 400 points, replacing all their Leaving Cert subjects and points with FETAC Award and points. The points are as follows 50 points for a Distinction, 35 points for a Merit, 20 points for a Pass.
    5. If you plan on using your FETAC award to progress via the CAO then note what FETAC says Applicants are advised at all times to confirm linked awards, any additional module requirements, application processes and scoring systems with the Admission Offices of the participating higher education institutions. Check with the University/Institute of Technology that you wish to progress to as to what the FETAC requirements are. Insist that the FE college you are attending gives you the name AND codes for the Award and the modules (don’t go on the names of the courses and modules). Do remember that you must have 8 modules including the mandatory modules to get your full award and that the progression routes via the CAO only applies to people with a full award. Some Universities/Institutes of Technology require you to get certain results in some modules and may also require Maths. DOUBLE CHECK everything. Do remember it is a very popular option and not an automatic route so have plan B in case you don’t progress to the course you hope to get in the University/Institute of Technology.
    6. If you are not happy with your FETAC results you can appeal both the process (ie how you were assessed and the procedures followed) and/or the result for a small fee. FETAC have 4 assessment periods in the year - Jan, May, Aug, Nov so you can insist that the FE centre registers you for re-assessment before next May if you wish.
