Paddy20 - What can I say.

Anyone who has looked at the "photo check, name check" thread will see that Paddy20 has been banned for 2 weeks. Nanook spent quite a bit of time with PM.s to him yesterday but to no avail. I have spent large chunks of my time also sending PM's to Paddy over the last few months trying to keep him on the straight and narrow but I got no thanks for it.

Last night he started a thread in the feedback forum stating that unless you post a photo of yourself you will not be allowed to post in the North West forum. He has willfully and deliberately twisted everything to try and justify his pathetic "civil rights" grunt.
Nanook has asked for that thread to be transferred to here but if that does not happen then you can all have a look at it here

I am aware of what has been said in the PM's but I wont comment further as that part is between nanook and Paddy. But I want the people who post here to understand that things are not rosey in the garden. As far as I am concerned there will be no more outlandish statements and no more ranting about basic and civil rights for this, that and the other. We have heard them all before and if Paddy wants to be a champion of citizens rights then he will have to get his own soapbox and rant all he wants from there.

Here are a few examples of what Paddy has posted in the past: advised people to defraud the social welfare system, encouraged people to break the planning laws, wrongfully named a senior politician of having taken a brown envelope, wrongfully named and accused a well known contractor of objecting to a planning application, suggested that a certain business person was not being prosecuted for alleged offences because his sister held a senior legal post (yes, he named both.) I think those examples will show you all why things must change.

These rants and foundless accusations cant go on as boards.ie will be sued. We have protected Paddy in the past but both myself and nanook are charged with protecting the boards from legal threats as a result of posts in the NW forum. When Paddy comes back from his 2 week ban things are going to be a lot different.

I saw the thread Paddy started yesterday on this forum before it was deleted.
Jaysus Paddy, why does everything have to boil down to your civil rights? The rules were clear and you broke them knowingly. From a personal point of view, I am getting extremely annoyed at your continuous rambling about your civil rights. You need to lighten up because, when you are in the mood, your contribution to this forum is as good as anybody else. Finally, with regards to those much mentioned civil rights of yours, I am pretty sure that the Constitution of this country does not cover posting on a privately owned site such as boards.ie, where the rules are pretty straight forward.

Don't see the point of getting in a strop over the Name Check & Photo thread. I don't want to post my pic, therefore i don't post in that thread. My civil rights are still intact, last time I looked.

Even if I did have an issue with it, it's still just a thread in a forum, nothing to get stressed about.

    People need to relax more.

I saw the thread before it got deleted too. Have to agree with Smashey.

    Much ado about nothing.

In light of ongoing discussions elsewhere I am going to leave this as it is for now. I am not going to say too much other than (as most people know by now) Paddy has been banned for 2 weeks and he is not a happy camper.

Things may well change and if they do I will post an update

Felt the need to pop into this forum to pass on support to the Mods.

I won't express my true opinion but from what I've read of his posts, I'm amazed he's not received a full site ban.

Keep up the good work guys.

    Move on.

For anyone who's interested Paddy20 has now had his ban from the NW forum extended to 4 weeks for personal abuse. He's also banned from the feedback forum.

He knew the rules of the thread.

Paddy was the only person to have an issue or problem with it. I just did a quick head count and we had 17 different people post photos and none of them had a problem.

When he couldn't get his way he tried to start a "back me up" poll in the same thread. Some of you may have seen it before it was deleted. That combined with his antics later has earned him a ban on 2 forums

You are quite right. It was his defiance that got to me. Everyone else was wrong and he was right.

Here's an extract from a fairly recent post by Paddy................. "my fundamental belief that 'freedom of choice' is a basic human right."

Paddy had his freedom of choice in relation to the photo check thread - Post with a photo or dont post at all.

This thread came about because of Paddy's constant moaning about his civil rights. No matter what the subject is, it affects his civil rights in some way. The rules on the photo thread were very clear, but he chose to ignore them. When this was pointed out to him, he started ranting about civil rights and proceeded to open a thread in feedback about it. His ban was fully deserved. I have already said on this thread that when he is in the mood, his contribution to this forum is as good as anybody else and I would like to have him back. I really hope he behaves on his return as a lot of his posts are well thought out and very topical.

Just for the record I disagree with Paddy 20 and I think he shouldn't have went on as he did. He went over the top.
But I dont see the point of you starting a thread with the obvious sole intention of getting others to flame him.

Dropping in on an old haunt here, I used to catergory mod all the regions for a time, and had course to read a Paddy20 post or two...

Just a line to support the mods on this. I applaud the mods for reasoning to other posters why Paddy20 was banned. It preempts "set my people free" threads.

Note: no one is flaming Paddy20, just saying his reasoning of a thread and subsequent reactions was out of whack, and he had to go.

Not all mods do it, but for those who do, who show were the line is and act promptly, it shows good stewardship and nous, tbh.

    :)

And I dont see the point of you making wild accusations like that.

Like every moderator I have a problem with people who accuse others in the wrong and it is myself and nanook who ensure that threads are kept free from personal abuse and false allegations like your post above.

Dont be in such a hurry to be a clone of Paddy and think before you post

BTW: editing out your comments doesn't help either

Cheers DMC. Its always nice to get a vote of confidence from the more senior members here.

Nanook and myself work very closely together in modding this forum and we like to think of ourselves as being proactive in its day to day running. This particular thread was started in order to explain to our loyal flock why one of our regular contributors was banned and also to indicate the type of behaviour that is unacceptable.

For anyone to suggest otherwise is an insult considering the amount of untold work that went on by PM and on the mods forum (including the unwarranted abuse) in an attempt to avoid a ban.

When you quote a post from someone that includes smilies you also include the smilies in the quote. Dont twist things around to suit your viewpoint.

I dont have to explain myself to you but since you are incapable of reading or understanding the thread you will find the answer above.

I would be careful with the content of your posts as up to now you haven't contributed anything meaningful other than make false accusations at me and that is considered flamimg

    madge

the whole point of this thread was to inform others of what happens here.

The North West is a friendly place to be, even with paddy here. This thread is an informative one and gives updates, if you dont agree that is your choice you have your right to disagree and view your points.

But to question, i am not sure of that, if you feel someone is out of line then point it out, but note, and i take no pride in this, I was the one who banned Paddy for reasons he clearly knows.

As yet i have to see points of criticism against what was done, the majority of feedback says it was a the correct decision, ( i am not looking for glory)

Just for all the posters here, we have had feedback from paddy and is giving his point and i have no doubt that he will share his opinions when he returns.

What happened, happened. What is done is done.

I personally feel that their is a humorous tone to this thread and hopes it stays that way, if you note from previous threads we have rules on personal attacks, but I for one will be glad to see the end of all the animosityand the return of paddy so he can have his speak on this matter

Depends what you think is meaningful.
I did not make false accusations. From my viewpoint, it seemed your initial post was a bid to get people to say 'you were right' and 'he was wrong'.
I thought threads like this one you started, should maybe be in the feeback forum? or am I wrong?

I don't mean to step on anyone's toes here, but I agree with Madge.

Yes, you have your reasons for banning Paddy20. I do not know what went on in PM, therefore I have no opinion on his being banned. I do know that what he did in the photo check thread was wrong. I personally thought it was fun to post pictures, and knew the thread was lighthearted, as was evidenced by the second chances that were awarded to a couple people who forgot to post their pictures. Paddy20 had plenty of time to post a picture, he was just being stubborn--and the rules of that thread stated that if you don't post a picture, you're banned. He knew the rules. Ya play with fire, ya get burned. *shrug*

That said, I think it's wrong to post a thread solely about his ban. It's not fair to him, as since he is banned, he cannot post a rebuttal. Also, have any of us stopped to think about how he can still read this from someone else's computer, or if he's not logged in? Personally, my feelings would be extremely hurt if I were in his position. :(

Just my $0.02, for what it's worth. :o

    Guys

i have to agree with eiretamicha here. Paddy has a right to reply but lets twist this around.

Paddy did propose the photo thread, not the photo check, promoting the glory of the north west. He has done some good here, yes his tangents were off the wall but on a good day he is a good laugh.

This is the first time that a regular member has been banned for 4 weeks from the NW forum and the situation is completely new to all of us here. While it could have happened to anyone it turned out to be Paddy in this case but this thread and what it relates to will be used as yardstick in the future if and when similar events occur.

We have a good bunch of members in the North West and I thought it only fair to let everyone know about the events surrounding the banning and at the same time set out what is going to be the position from here on. There was nothing stated in my posts that hasn’t already been conveyed directly to Paddy so it is wrong to suggest that I have tried to set him up. Paddy is well aware of what he has done and I am speaking for myself only when I say that he has been advised by PM on several occasions of what is acceptable and what’s not.

I want to clarify the point I made in an earlier post about the amount of work that went on trying to avoid a banning. What I meant by that was that nanook spent a lot of time trying NOT to ban Paddy. I am aware of what happened but that is between nanook and Paddy and is a private matter as far as I am concerned.

This forum is meant to be enjoyable and in the more serious threads there’s no harm in having a bit of humour thrown in. People should be able to differentiate between tongue in cheek remarks and hatchet in hand remarks. The thread will remain open for anyone else who wants to have their say and if it’s any consolation I can tell you that Paddy is viewing the posts and will definitely have the right to respond when he’s back onboard again. But I will stress the point that this thread or ineed any thread will not be allowed to degenerate into a slanging match. In the meantime I’m fairly sure I would get a PM from him if he found something out of the way.

I want to add my tupence here, it seems that myself and muffler have had to defend ourselves more than once for what has happened here.

I personally think that what we do is not the easiest of jobs, and from all that is going on over the last few days, the most thankless job also.
People have been fair and stated they do not know the full story, 3 ppl in this case, and will not comment, to them i tip my hat, to the rest of the investigators i say this, try and deal with this position for a week when you have allegations going on about individuals, numerous accounts set up just for muppetery, posts coming in at all hours of the night when they know we are asleep and so on.

Both Muffler and I have done a good job to date, in 4 years of this forum there have been 13 bannings, 5 of which is one person. No one has been banashed to the depths of a site ban.

Muffler, all credit to the man, has only been here a wet weekend and has shone with true colours and has proven his worth on many an occassion and has nothing but abuse thrown at him and in one case a vendeta of muppet against him.

When it comes to mod's, my personal opinion is that we are more than fair and there are no abuse of powers at all, as has been indicated in earlier posts.

Muffler, i am going to give you the final say on this but my opinion is that we close this thread untill paddy returns and open it for him to air his opnions, and have his say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,550 ✭✭✭✭muffler

I have read the entire thread again from start to finish and yes I think everything that needed to be said was said. The thread has been running for three and a half days and our regulars here would have had ample time to post their comments.

It is odd that it has only been in the last half day that we've had 2 people complaining about the thread seeing as it was just last night that I was informed that paddy was viewing the posts (I dont have a problem with that)

I will lock this now and when it is opened again I will make sure that the rules regarding personal abuse, personal attacks, flaming etc are fully adhered to.

We have a damn good forum here for the most part so lets keep it that way.

Back by popular demand. The thead is opened again.

The main reason is that I received several PM's today about it and have to say that points were raised which would justify leaving this open.

You're not quite getting the hang of this censorship thing are you?:D

I think Paddy20 has been getting his constitutions mixed up - it's the American one that does the free speech bit. Makes you wonder though if the server was hosted in the US wouldn't free speech be guaranteed and grumpy old men could all get together and blather on about Orange County Council.
