Wikipedia vandalism

I use Wikipedia fairly often for reading up on stuff, and I often get hooked looking through related pages.

But I've noticed that my 13 year old sister keeps vandalising pages, for example, adding her name to the list of famous Irish people, saying she's dating a band member, stuff like that. She's already gotten two warnings for it and I don't want to be banned from the site just because she gets a kick out of ruining a good site. We have a static IP so if an IP ban is put in place I'm screwed.

Is there anything I can do other than kick her around? lol

E-mail the admins and ask for your ip to be banned from making any subbmissions, not from the site.

Would that mean I could create an account and edit using that account, but unreg edits won't be allowed? If so that would be grand.

your not on a fixed IP though. Why not just tell her to cop the fuk on?

Lock out her login to your machine, or if she is logging in as herself you can edit the hosts file and enable LMHOSTS so that it will never display wikipedia for her.

I actually do have a fixed IP, its entered in my router. If I enable DHCP I get a private IP address, 192.168.132.xxx going through 80.253.125.215. One of Permanet's ways of saving money.

The problem is that she has a computer in her own room. Unless I just do a hosts file block (on her PC) like you said, I doubt she knows about that. I'm also tempted to block her MAC address on the wireless LAN, hehe.

    take a screeshot of wikipedia,
photoshop "site down due vandalism" over the image
    upload it somewhere,
enter the ip of the upload into your sisters hosts file and map it to wiki.
    problem solved.

    HOSTS ?

I'm open to correction but isn't it - hosts, dns, lmhosts or is that order just for netbios ?

would it be any use for him to her browser to go via an anonyomous proxy, or something like net nanny for her.

Good suggestions, she shouldn't really have the net in there but something needs to be done with it. But yeah, I think you're right about the lookup order.

Your parents allow their 13 year old daughter to use the internet in her own room? That's pretty irresponsible parenting. Read the thread about MySpace getting sued.

Anyway, since you have control of the router (and she probably doesn't have a great deal of technical expertise), block her PC. If she complains, let her explain to your parents why you blocked her

actually I like this one, but I'd go one further. I would post up...

    You have been site banned
    for repeated vandalism.

Your IP has been detected as: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

    Traced to: [insert address]

    Mac Address: xxxxxxxxxx

    Machine type:

    Login Name:

You are being fined $2,000 for damages. A bill will be sent to your house in the next week or so.

Then I'd go as far to do up a dummy bill and pretend it came through the post.

With your own bank details on it of course. Then wait a few days, and give it back to your parents without ever telling her
