It explains all here julep. www.3v.ie
I use 3v myself, and find it fairly handy. They simply swipe your card for you, and print you a voucher. There is a list of locations on that site where you can buy them. :)

You can buy the credit in certain shops, but there is a €5 charge.

1.register online for your 3v card.
2.present card to retailer, request what amount you want.
The shop assistant will swipe your 3V Prepaid Voucher Card through the terminal and print your 3V Voucher with a 16-digit VISA number. Immediately afterwards, an SMS or email is sent to you with the security details for the new 3V Voucher, i.e. the expiry date and a 3-digit PIN called the CVV2.

Its all on their website really easy to use.

    that's great. thank you.

now, does anyone know if vodafone.ie accept payment by 3v?
my cousin wants to buy a phone from them, but got rid of her credit card.

I would think so, using the 16 Visa number, you would probably select VISA as payment method.

If shes buying online then yes. When registered with 3v, they give you the option of receiving your new voucher details via email or by text message. I use the latter. So when I buy a voucher, within seconds the expiry information etc is sent straight to my phone. When she has this information and goes online to buy, she should select the visa option and use the information from her mobile / email to fill out the rest.

    thanks for the quick replies.

i would normally look these things up myself, but i'm using an 11 year old pc and it's slow as ****. not to mention the crappy Irish broadband (so called) 2MB line.

some sites request an issue date (ie: when you got the card) when ordering stuff. For this just enter the date the voucher was actually issued.

3V cards are fantastic. I have never had hassle using them on komplett, ebay, play.com, amazon and various other sites (no, not pr0n ffs).

yeah my mate got one last week, and it's just like using a normal Visa card, except it seems handier, and a lot less risky.

why would you pay for porn, when it is freely available? :)

yeah, my pc is riddled with viruses. i could get rid of them, but they seem to be functioning along the lines of monty burns' "three stooges syndrome". i wouldn't use a proper credit card on this pc.

i have registered for both myself and my cousin and have just one last question. are the vouchers available in banks. i have looked at the site and couldn't see anything regarding that. there are no 3V outlets in Leixlip.

Your nearest Internet Cafe should do them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

that would be in maynooth. also the location of the nearest shop that sells 3V cards. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 703 ✭✭✭ThrownAway

You mean that sells vouchers :)

well save up, make the trek and put loads on the card, then go on an online splurge. you have to pay €5 anyway, so you may as well top it up with bundles of moolah and go hit up ebay or something

I got one worth 20 and spent about 12 on a phone charger. Now that I have 8 euro left will that be added on to the next voucher I buy?

Like say I buy another voucher worth 20 will it be worth 28?
Or will I have to spend the leftover 8 on something crappy?

No, left over money cannot be added to a new voucher. You will have to spend the €8 on something. I recommend the bargain sections of play.com and cdwow. :D

Otherwise you pay €2.50 to redeem your money. It takes a few months for the few euro to get pack to you by cheque.

Nah - PTSB doesnt actually sell the vouchers - i tried before they jsut have info. I found my nearest retailer on 3v.ie - usually SPAR's Centra's - like where you'd buy mobile top up.

One shop said they dont do them anymore but there was a sticker in the window and when i told them it turned out the guy just didnt knwo how to do it! But it was so easy and only took 2 seconds!! he eventually managed to get it for me!

yeah you could get a refund but I'd rather spend it on i-tunes!!

Yep, just found out that PTSB dont do them, ridiculous, not selling the product that you are a partner to.
Great concept, but jeez, seriously needs more outlets, either that or they need to be selling in TSB's otherwise its gonna just go under.
Everyone who uses one should email 3V telling them whether or not location stops them from using them as much as they would like to, as I have yet to see another way of giving feedback.

I put what ever little I have left on mine into my ebay sellers account to pay off any future fees. Not worth spending €2.50 to cash in €7.
Very handy for internet/telephone purchases, shame they can't be used for internet gaming though.
