Weight Loss and diet help

    Hi there,

I'm 20 years old, and I suffer from an underactive thyroid, which basically slows down my metabolism and makes it easier for me to gain weight, and harder for me to shift it once it's there.

I'm female, 5 foot 6 inches, and about 69 kilos. I am not happy with this weight. While I'm not noticably overweight, I have "problem spots" such as my stomach, thighs etc and I just feel generally unhappy with my weight. I used to have a very toned athlete's body before I started suffering with my health, as I used to play sports quite a bit.

I've now joined a gym, and have had a program set out for me which I'm finding quite good. I'm now just stuck trying to sort my diet out. To be honest, while I found the advice on exercise quite good, the dietary advice I received in the gym was a bit ****e, and considering I have a good knowledge of the science behind nutrition, some of it was inaccurate in my opinion.

However, even though I do have a good knowledge of the theory behind nutrients and that, I'm really not sure how best to actually apply them to a weight loss program that will suit my needs.

Just for the record, I'm highly allergic to eggs, so that rules out that source of high protein.

I'm just not sure what kind of diet I should be following. I know I should be reducing my intake of junk food, which I am doing gradually. I know that if I just stop my intake of sweet foods I'll fall off the wagon even more quickly, so easy does it ;)

I just want to know what other people have found works for them in terms of weight loss and dieting programs. I don't think I've reached the weight watchers stage yet...I'm not overweight, I'm just not at my ideal weight.

Any input or information in regards to this, and also in regards to whey protein and weight loss shakes and that would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks
    Smurph
