Hello. I'm looking for some sound advice and hope someone can give some. I'm an 18 year old male and haven't a clue where to start in terms of lifting weights. I'm quite skinny, have relatively no upper body and want to do something about it. I suppose the best way to describe myself would be of an athletic build. I'm 6ft. Havent been training (running) in about three months owing to the Leaving Cert and I need to get back into the swing of things. Any advice much apreciated on where to begin working on the upper body
    Cheers!

I have not joined one yet. You can see it's a bit of a lost cause, but I have to start somewhere. I hope to join the gym in UCD in September. I'm living in Rathfarnham and dont drive so thats another problem. I think tmrw i'm goin to have to go and join one. I dont want to wait any longer. Thanks for the rapid response

    No prob,

If your ever over near westpoint or Total fitness in Blanch, let me know and I could hook you up with some guys who would be glad to help - including me.

For the start try getting some training magazines to familiarise yourself with different aspects of training including the diet etc.

Take your time and be patient, if you stick around here you will learn a lot as people post and answer different questions.

I'll post more tomorrow and maybe others will too

Most gyms give you regimes that you can stick to. UCCs gym The Mardyke do it, so I'm guessing UCD would have something similar

Thanks very much. I'm nearly embarrassed to ask questions about something i know zero about. Thanks for the response. I'll be keeping a close eye here. Eager to learn. Perhaps even we could come to some sort of arrangement for a small bit of coaching. Anyway thanks again

    Not a problem!
Don't be talking nonesense about being embarrassed for asking questions. The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked :)
