i'm looking to lose some weight and get in shape and am wondering what would be the most comfortable clothes to wear and where to buy these clothes (Dublin city/ west Dublin/ north Kildare).

i'm just going to start out walking with a view to taking up jogging after a while.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

firstly and most importantly get a decent pair of runners even for walking these are essential. I swear by asics have been using them for 10 years and have never had any problems/injuries. A good pair are not cheap €100 + but they are worth every cent. Go to asics website and there is a service there that will let you know what type is most suited to your needs

Arnotts have a good selection but most proper sports shops will stock them .
Have a look through the history of this forum and I think there are some threads on runners

As for all the rest of the gear make comfort your priority not how good it looks

hey julep get yourself into arnotts, quite a few of teh best runners are gone but there are some good runners still going with 50% off.

as for other clothes as you are only going to be walking for the first while any of you current clothes should be fine even jeans. For jogging shorts are by far the best option, most tacksuits bottoms aren't great for running. Then all you need is t-shirt and maybe a wind blocker and you would be fine.

Just remember not to overdress. Most people when starting off where to many clothes as they dress for the first 3 minutes but remember your body will heat up with the activity so you will just sweat alot more if you wear to many clothes

well if you are a girl, i would recommend getting a decent sports bra, preventing bouncing boobs whilst jogging/walking a definite plus! Any decent lingerie shop/department store should be able to advise you on whats right for your size!

As the others have said, a good pair of runners. The rest I wouldn't bother putting too much cash into, because if you are really on a mission to lose weight your sizes are going to change a bit over the coming weeks.

I use dunnes tracksuits because I power walk most days, so they are constantly in the wash. I think it is funny how some people will wear the best of clothes to the gym.

If I meet my targets I spend the extra few quid on something nice for going out instead.

G/l with the weightloss julep :)

    i'm not a woman, but i do have man boobs. i'm hoping they'll shrink a bit. :)

i want to lose about 4 stone. i'm 18 now and 14 would be fine for my height.
i just lack discipline when it comes to fatty foods.

as for looking good, i'm not too concerned about my appearance and will probably go for the tracksuit bottoms from le dunnes boutique.
anyway, thanks for the advice, folks.

Good luck with your efforts! Im back to the gym after an absence of far too long for my own good. Ive put on about 3st and am a bit embarrassed at the thoughts of heffalumping along on the treadmill but Ive gone past caring what other people think.
I have my old gear i used to wear but its too small for me now so im going along inanything that fits. its my first night back tonight and ive been scouring these threads for tips for a good programme. Anyway, best of luck to you.
