westwood gym rip-off

If you are considering joining a gym (namely westwood gym based in dublin) I strongly recomend you dont, or be prepared to be ripped off.

Several months ago I went into the westwood gym in clontarf to cancel my membership as i was moving out of the area. While there i was given a cancellation form which i filled in. Recently I found out that they were still debiting my account. It appears they have lost my cancellation form and refuse to refund me as they have no records of me cancelling. After phoning for six weeks i eventually got in contact with the MD who outright refused to refund me as in her words "we do not loose records". If I remember correctly, the cancellation forms are on dockets which would be sequentially numbered and if this is true then, as they have the date on file when i went in about cancelling, they should be able to see that there is a docket missing. Unfortuneatily they are not willing to check up on this.

If anyone is thinking of joining this gym I strongly recomend you dont and if cancelling a membership, dont get caught out - keep copies of all records and cancel your direct debit through the bank!

Similar happened to me in the past. They continued to charge me at the standard rate and not the student rate for a few months and when I went back to them about it they said they had no record of me giving them my student card and told me they do not make mistakes. Bank were no use about it either. I went about it a different way and "acquired" a refund plus interest in my own way.
