€159.99 in Game? That's slightly ridiculous, the RRP is €149.99. And then when you compare it to America it's even more ridiculous. We're getting the product marked up at absolutely every stage.

When I pre-ordered my DS Lite in Game in Cork, they said the price would be the rrp, now I'm planning on getting extremely annoyed if they try to charge me more than that. So apologies in advance if you're behind me in a queue.

You can buy on Lik-Sang European site for the standard RRP of 150 Euro (excludes shipping). It's great for Nintendo gear and you can import games and the GBA movie players and everything for DS there for almost nothing.

Game suck in general for Nintendo stuff or at least the one in Liffey Valley does.

I had to pay 50 Euro for Phonix Wright in Extra Vision and I have no idea why. This was in Tullamore.

I think they charge more further from Dublin. I got my DS in Game in Liffey Valley on launch day for 150 Euro.

Of course, it's Ireland so why do you expect. We always get ripped off. I'd buy from lik-sang if the price was the same on principle of not giving my money to a store trying to rip me off in Ireland. They'll only learn if we stop buying from them.

Irishgamer is launching tomorrow and we had an in-depth look at the price they're charging and contacted GAME's head office about it. I'll post a link to the article in the morning when its up.

We've tried to get some Irish retailers to tell us details about their Lite bundles but none will until Friday. Seems they're all getting pretty paranoid about the competition. Every other Irish retailer we contacted was only charging €149, although at some, like HMV and Virgin, the staff weren't even sure what the Lite was. They are record stores though so it could be excused.

If you've anything to say to GAME about the tenner extra, e-mail it to noel@irishgamer.ie and I'll forward it to Allen Wilson, their commercial director for Ireland.

Gamestop are selling for 149 as far as I know; I'd say Game will drop to the RRP after launch (because it's gonna sell anyway, even for an extra 10)

Is there anywhere official that states the rrp? I was the first person to put a deposit down on the DS Lite in the Cork store, and at that point they didn't know how much it would be. All they could say is that it would be the rrp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,255 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

    Article now online... http://www.irishgamer.ie/news.php?id=2&page=1

Game have a price match policy Buceph anyway so just tell them you want them to match the price that other stores are charging. If they won't, get your money back and buy it elsewhere.

It remains to be what sort of value their bundles offer though so you could be okay yet.

Check out the consumer section of this website - under their "advertising" part there is reference to false advertising also forming part of any mis-information given to you by a salesrep - so if he advised RRP for DS Lite they are obliged to charge you that - you just might have to kick up a bit of a stink first - maybe ask for the manager/area manager http://www.oasis.gov.ie/

Get it from play.com. 145 euro at current exchange rates and no postage charge.

If Smyths allow their 'first week' loyalty card promotion on the DS, we might get 10% off, putting it down at €135. If thats the case, then thats where I'll be buying it.

However they do say that electronics and gadgets can't be shipped to Ireland but they did accept my order

Maybe they are referring to what's sold in the electronics and gadgets sections of the site....

Gamestop are having a massive sale nationwide apparently. If your planning on buying a DS Lite, there would be the place to stock up on your first games, also i have confirmed the price @ gamestop to be €149 for both black or white versions. Bundles are expected to be €200-220 depending on the game and bundle contents

    I know i'm definitely getting:
    Mario Kart DS
    Supermario DS
    Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
Mario & Luigi Partners in time

and then The New Super Mario Bros. and Starfox when they are out..

Still don't know if i want black or white though

That's probably it - but if a DS LIte isn't an electronic gadget.... ;)

You might find the order gets rejected; they probably don't have what's needed in place to stop an order being placed, but once it goes through the process and is about to be shipped it might be stopped.

Just tried ordering a 42" LCD TV and the system automatically told me to sling my 'ook...so it seems that gamegear is ok.

€149 in xtra vision. And someone mentioned castlevania/burnout they are €19.99 each at xtra vision so before you consider €200-220 for a bundle check out what your local XV has in stock as regards to games, might save a few euro.

I never even thought of Xtra-Vision, i dont think i ever remember seeing an DS games in the one here in tipp though

EDIT: just checked again, they have some but they are €45 or €49.99. they have 2 in 1 type games for €25, and a simpsons road rage game for €30 but thats it

Damn, just read the article on irish gamer; I don't like the sound of it being in limited supply.

That's not for sure yet but stores are advertising that there will be limited supply. That said, interest seems to be minimal from what I've seen so I could see the larger games shops, like GAME or Gamestop on Henry Street, selling out but others should have stock.

At irishgamer we're going to have a full list of prices for each store online on Friday so I suggest anyone who wants to shop around waits for that. Let us do the work for ya :D

I dont think everyone will be so eager to wait on a purchase that is rumoured to be limited. The general consensus could be just to grab it while you can, i would imagine the black versions will sell quicker

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭thebman

By the way, do people know that there was a huge shipment of black DS's stolen which is why they are probably in limited supply?

Either that or it's Irish companies taking crap to justify price raises.

I honestly can't see Ireland's shipment selling out. They didn't even know what the Lite was when I called into HMV and Virgin yesterday, yet both are getting stock in.

Stores like that, which don't particularly market pre-orders, will always have a few left. And the demand can't be that bad if people haven't been in asking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 711 ✭✭✭BOHSBOHS

it was actually white DS lites that were stolen

limited supply nonsense probably started by those rip off merchants GAME
it shouldnt affect prices at all .. ie its not like it was the one and only shipment to the uk

I dont either really, but there's always the chance you could have your heart set on a black one and end up having them sold out for the smaller stores, or even some employees taking first dibs

I plan on picking mine up in the Parkway Gamestop in Limerick (its relatively small so it may just have a few dozen or less) so i wont have to drive through limerick traffic in the city, coming from tipp all i have to do is turn off at the tipp roundabout and then head back the way i came. i can get in and out as quickly as possible

Pre ordered mine ages ago on liffey street's Gamestop. I have a loyaly with that shop. Im getting a White one. But do you want to match with the Wii or contrast, that is the question!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,498 ✭✭✭wayne040576

I don't think there'll be a shortage. I only preorderd one from the GAME website last wednesday and it has shipped already.

Tell them to update their pending price changes! A lot of DS games are now €19.99 at xtra vision.
New ones like Brain age are €45 though.

So are any shops selling under €150? No way in hell am I paying €160. It's only $130 in the US FFS.

Anyone know how much Gamestop will give me for my DS?

I'm hoping to trade it in with 9 games a 3 DVDs so I only have to pay about 10 euros or something. Even that seems a little silly, honestly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

149 in game. they "misprinted" their posters

I think its 35 euro cash or 50 store credit.

@ Gamestop trade in your old DS and get a new DS Lite bundle for €70

or it could be €79 i dont remember exactly

Shops have plenty of stock. We'll have a full report of bundles on offer this evening.

All stores are charging 149.99, including GAME.

    any idea on trade-in deals?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,272 ✭✭✭i_am_dogboy

There's a deal in gamestop where you get a free copy of rayman with a ds lite and any game, but they didn't have any raymans in liffey street....not gonna cry myself to sleep over that loss. I think they got a good few lites in stock-they aren't out black ones yet anyhow.

    RE*AC*TOR wrote:

I saw posters in Game the other day saying you'd get a console for 109.99 if you traded your old one in. That's probably 99.99 now that they have dropped the price.

Gamestop are offering the Lite for 79.99 if you tarde in your old one, which is quite good. That's 70 off.

    Bundle deals:

GAME are 165 for the handheld and 1 game from a choice of 8. I'm still waiting on them to get back to me with the list.

Gamestop are 170 for the DS + Spyro or if you buy a DS and any game, you get Rayman free. Pretty crappy bundles from Gamestop if you ask me.

HMV: The first one is 166.98 for the DS and 1 of:

    Brain Training
    Phoenix Wright
    FIFA Street 2
    Over The Hedge

Second bundle HMV is DS + any game + accessory pack for 193.

Smyths are 170 for a DS Lite + selected game or 180 for DS + any game. Selected games in the first pack include Brain Training, Spongebob games and Sonic Rush.

Virgin and Xtravision have no bundles. Xtravision claim they have no stock either. I rang three different stores and not a single unit in any.

    Hope that all helps!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,255 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

HMV look to be the best so far. 166 for a DS Lite and Brain Training is a great deal. I'll let yas know what games GAME have in their offer when I know. 170 for a DS Lite and Sonic Rush in Smyths isn't bad either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,255 ✭✭✭✭Lemlin

The games you can choose from in GAME are:

    Metroid Prime Hunters
    Brain Training
    Tetris DS
    Over The Hedge
    FIFA World Cup
    Ice Age 2
    Sonic Rush
    Sims 2

Very good from GAME. They are cheaper than Smyths for a DS Lite and Sonic Rush.

    www.videogamesplus.ca

    NINTENDO DS LITE

€118.14 With DHL Shipping only, which comes to €25.84

Not too bad, they already are a fast company when it comes to shipping by air mail, 3 days to me, anyway had anyone ordered a DS LITE from them yet, I never incurred customs from them before.

I think i got an excellent deal in gamestop. €170 for a black DS Lite Rayman and Mario Kart DS bundle

    I also bought:
    Super Mario64 DS
    Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow
    Bomberman
Mario & Luigi Partners in Time
    Dr Kawashima's Brain Training

The only problem is they didnt have a copy of Rayman, so i said i could pick it up when i come in and pick up The New Super Mario Bros on Friday.

Also got about €100 worth of vouchers

They must of changed the offer for you because you were buying so much. Their head office definitely didn't mention anything to me about any offer with Mario Kart. They mentioned the Rayman offer. Maybe Mario Kart is selling for 20 euro though. Just thought of that.

Their offer is that you get Rayman free with a DS Lite and any game.

Got my DS lite today - pretty great deal on it compared to GAME - traded in 5 pretty old PS2 games, 2 first gen DS games, and 2 DVDs, with my DS and it came to about a Tenner.

Not too bad, but it's still a silly price for an upgrade.

    Yeah, so far.

The GAME in Blanch has the DS Lite with Mario Kart and Monkey Ball for €160 which I think is brilliant. I'm mostly looking forward to Kirby and Mario and Luigi Partner's in Crime.

Got my white DS lite (was undecided on colour, but my inner Macwhore said white in the end) on Saturday, got Brain Training, pink socks and glow-in-the-dark styluses with it. Go staff discount and people giving me money for my birthday :) (Not saying exactly how much I paid for the lot) I'm very impressed by it, Mario Kart looks beautiful on it! One thing's for sure though, I'm never playing Meteos on it. That game is being permanently stuck into my old banjaxed DS - the one that got wrecked because of that game.
Getting Super Mario Bros on Friday now too. Can't wait!
