Well McWilliams has been dropped again by RTE anyway, so perhaps if the salary is right he can come back to Newstalk. He doesn't have too many other options available to him in the long term.

He has a three-part documentary (hour long episodes) starting on RTE in the Autumn and has just signed another deal with Gill MacMillan publishers who gave him a record-breaking advance for a non fiction book. I think he's doing alright. ;)

Dunphy is some w@nker to leave that station high and dry just as they could really do with his profile when going national. Hes an egotistical fucher who just had to go head to head on tv3 with the Late Late show - rather than running on a saturday night. That was a smart move, eamo:rolleyes:

What makes you think that was his decision? I'd hardly say he's leaving the station high and dry when this is mid-June and they have until September to replace him.
Bet the behind-the-scenes wizards at NT are really glad that they dropped Mc Williams for Dunphy now ;)

Doubt it; the split was pretty ugly and I doubt it was just based on contract negotiations, I'd say NT wanted rid of him; perhaps it was the new boss that pulled the trigger.

Apparently Dunphy is back on the air on Monday ... until I heard Richard Aldice announce it this morning, I wondered if he would ever be back inside the Newstalk building.

Adam, this is typical dunphy... Look at how Ann Marie Hourihane became side-lined when they were supposed to be co-presenters at Radio Ireland.

Point being, with his previous experience there he knows that the last thing a talk-based station needs when going national, is the loss of their highest profile presenter. Hence 'barrel' and 'over' come to mind, and it was probably of little consideration to him the small matter that 106 continues to lose money...

So far the names that have cropped up, although of varying degrees of talent, are unlikely to grab the ear of the nation. I hope that changes, because I really want to see that station succeed :)

If the rumours are true I'm sure Dunphy hoped NT couldn't do without his services going national and so they would have to cave to his demands, it didn't play out like that.
He hasn't left them high and dry, and it wasn't his ego that got in the way, it was his bank balance.
Again, I'd say the Dunphy Show on TV3 was scheduled by the station rather than the presenter, I could be wrong though.

What about Vincent Browne for the morning show? I think his evening show (although more of a panel show) has demonstrated how he can grapple with guests. He would also have a very loyal Munster base, a national profile etc.

Dear lord, can you imagine that much sighing, blustering and pontificating on the radio, while you have the bowl of porridge. Rachel English (used to be on 5-7 Live) might have a chance, as she has quite a high profile. Her interviewing ability is limited though.

My understanding was to the contrary, that it was he who insisted on the scheduling...

Anyway Jeremy Paxman for NT; that would go down well in Healy-Rae country:D

Indeed, Rachel English has an annoying habit of asking a question, then trying to answer it herself before the interviewee can speak. Almost as if she doesn't want to look stupid by asking questions.

I agree, though, she would fit the profile ... but not mine.

Re: LOL @ 'sighing, blustering and pontificating' - I am reminded of how VB was portrayed on ED's Last Word - as a snarling, growling, barking pup. I don't think Dunphy ever missed the opportunity to get a dig in at old VB either on Today FM or Newstalk - he'd probably feel vindicated if they gave his old show to him.

Can't believe some people think Ger Gilroy is good. He is a stuttering mess, he has the carisma of a wet mop.
