Michael Scofield, a structural engineer, attempts to rob a bank in order to get incarcerated at Fox River State Penitentiary, where his brother Lincoln Burrows, accused of murdering the Vice President's brother, is scheduled to be executed.

I thought the first 2/3 episodes were weak/slow enough and i was about to give it up on it but then the pace really picks up.

Yep.. agree with the quite slow at first sentiment.

Saw the first episode this time last year (as this post reveals) as a screener was leaked and though it was promising but little did i know it'd turn out to be unquestionably the best new show of last season!

Well i thought the pace was pretty fast!But then again the only other tv series I am watching at the mioment is Lost. Good to see Peter Stormare again. I enjoyed it anyway although the premise is slightly tenuous

Not that impressed to be honest.

Something that struck me as really silly was the fact that nobody in authority copped on to the fact that his brother was in the same prison sentenced for death in a month’s time. Here is a guy who never has been in trouble before, very smart, successful etc. all of a sudden he decides to hold up a bank even though he has 500,000 in an account (at least that’s what I presumed the bank teller said when he was holding up the bank) and he then does not put any defense up in court and nobody put two and two together??

I dunno just strikes me as really silly. But I keep watching the next few episodes to see if it improves.

Well as a first timer I thought it was quite good. But then again the two brothers are very easy on the eye . It looks alright and am looking forward to more. Glad to hear it speeds up a bit, like 24 then, not another lost.

Lmao about the pilot , but then again was the actual pilot of lost in the first episode. Can't remember. Wtf about all the other shows that didn't have pilots in their 'pilots'?

Hi all. This is my first visit to the 'Prison Break' forum so I hope you'll all go easy on me!

Big fan of '24' here and I've been hearing a lot about 'Prison Break' in various '24' forums so I thought I'd watch the first episode tonight on RTE and see what all the hype was about. As other's have already said, it seemed like the first episode was a bit of a slow burner alright but I suppose it was all about just kind of setting up the plot and introducing us to the characters, so I'm going to keep watching it and I'm sure things will pick up, as other's have said, after the initial first few episodes. Having said that, though, it looks pretty good already and, like '24', it looks like there's probably going to be a lot of twists and turns in the plot (just like tonight at the end with the

. Thought that was a great little twist alright. ). I wouldn't be surprised if I end up becoming just as big a 'Prison Break' fan as I am a '24' fan by the end of the series. And, if that happens, God help everybody who comes near me because I won't be able to shut up talking about it all the time as well!

By the way, how many episodes are in this series? I don't want to go Googling or anything for fear of coming across spoilers so if any of you could tell me, I'd much appreciate it. Just wondering how long this series is going to run on RTE 2. Probably throughout the entire summer so that it'll be finished just in time before the new Autumn schedule starts, would I be right in guessing?

looks like there are 22 episodes in Seaon 1, therefore roughly, with no RTE sh it, it should end on 3rd week of Nov. Think I will be getting it on Amazon on
8th August.

Crikey, I didn't realise there was that many episodes. I was only expecting maybe 12 or 14, something like that, and therefore RTE would have had it wrapped up around the time the new autumn schedule was due to start. Didn't think it would be going into November (provided, as you say, RTE don't act the bollocks with it like they do with a lot of other shows and stop showing it halfway through the series or bump it into the "half-two-middle-of-the-night-slot" or something like that! :rolleyes: ).

With the current series of '24' finishing up within the next couple of weeks (on Sky One, at least) at least it looks like I'll have something else to keep me entertained into the autumn/winter months.

and when the clerk said that he had 500,000 dollars she meant in the bag he was holding...not in a bank account.

One thing that i didn't pay too much attention to when i first saw this series is how much of a milf LJ's mom is. Christ on a bike! Did she have to lean down on that table to talk to her son about the pot! Probably not! Best scene of the first episode imo.

22 eps in this series and filming for series 2 started in mid june and is due to start airing the end of August stateside.

I nearly gave up on it after two episodes two but i got so hooked on it. I watched 7 episodes in a row on one saturday morning.

'Lost' grasps you from the start in a high-octane way.. with an unknown atmosphere and strange things happening.

Very few pilots do this.. in that they grab you by the "short and hairies" from the opener.

PB is slightly slower for the pilot as i've already mentioned... but a couple of episodes in and you'll be hooked!

And come on.. i don't think anything will ever top that 'Lost' pilot!

Just as good as I thought it would be. Its one of the most slickly produced pilots I've seen in a while. You can sense tension and suspense building over the course of the episode.

I thought it was meh, at best. I don't normally like first episodes anyway as I've had the same problem with lost and 24, shows that I'm now addicted to. I'll give it a few more goes but I don't really like the main guy. His cellmate's pretty funny though.

After hearing murmurs about this for months on the web (even having the ending spoiled by some muppet in the Lost forum :mad: ) I was delighted to see RTE showing it.
As said already, it didn't grip you by the short and curlys like Lost but the premise looks very promising. I love how quickly he starts going about checking pipelines, making the right contacts. You just know every little detail of what he's doing in the first episode will have some major effect on the escape plan later on. Great bit at the end with the tatoo.
I agree about the whole "why doesn't everyone cop on that something's not right about him" thing. For the moment I'm happy to let it go.
The stuff on the outside world seems kinda interesting. Wonder what the whole special services cover up is about.... hmmmm.
Good stuff anyway, I'll be tuning in next week.

I still don't see how that tattoo thing'll work. I saw it coming from a mile off in the first place but what the hell happened when we kinda saw the blueprints. And the other brother (sorry, all the name's aren't known yet) can't really see them yet either.

I decided to give this a go having seem this as someone's signature on the LOST forum. Thought the acting wasd pretty hammy but might get beter. Also thought more questions should have been asked and the bit where the guv. of the prison asks for his help as a very silly plotline but then I will just suspend belief for a few episodes and give it a go while desperate housewives are missing! The lead guy is pretty cute alright!

Seeing the comments made about how cute the lead guys are I just realsied, where's the womens. Only one lead woman. Lost may be drawn out but at least it has it's fair share of eye candy for both males and females (so I hear) to enjoy. Here's hoping for some more conjugal visits

Jeez some people are really hard to please! It seems unless the pilot is absolutely fantastic they won't watch!

Every show takes three or four eps to find its feet. Maybe if the pilot was really dire, I'd condemn it but I thought the Prison Break pilot was quite good. It lot put in motion for the future I reckon. Some of it was a little unbelievable but I'll let that slide for now!

Well if you think about it, that tattoo took, presumably, around a year to do. All that time he had to study the blue prints. I imagine by then all Michael needed were designs representing the prints to jog his memory. Besides, the tattoos include a little more than just the blue-prints.....

Prison Break won't frustrate as many people as Lost does. Just about every episode ends on a cliff-hanger, and every cliff-hanger is immediately addressed in the following episode.

I also agree with the one who said the acting wasn't the best. I thought the main guy was a bit wishy washy. Some of the acting seemed to be at the standard of terrible films like SWAt, Resident Evil etc. (First to come to mind). Am still willing to keep going with it though.

MOD EDIT: Haven't a Clue.. consider this a warning! You NEED to take into account people who haven't seen 'Lost' or '24' - i myself only started watching '24' this Summer and thank God i've passed Season 2 when you posted this otherwise i'd be mucho-pissed. As for the 'Lost' spoiler.. that's spoiling one of the best reveals (in my opinion) in recent TV history! :eek:

Yeah, I totally agree. If things are not perfect in the first episode people seem to trash it for the rest of its time on air.

I think some Irish audiences are not sorry to say it 'sophisticated enough' for some US TV. They are to used to their Fair ****y et al to appreciate US TV.

Yes I think enough people have laughed at me for not knowing the first episode of a season is called 'Pilot'

But anyway, I really liked the episode. I was a bit confused at first as everything was going from one thing to another but it eventually made sense. I like the characters and thought they're well acted.

Will look forward to next week's episode.
