When did it become a gay bar?

16th Jun: Cosmo Brown's is going pink. Carlow will soon be the only town in Ireland to boast of an exclusively gay hotel, when Cosmo Brown's is re-launched as a gay resort hotel.

I was in there about three weeks ago on a saturday night and there was nobody there, literally myself and my gf. Make no mistake about it, this is a desperate attempt to win some market share.

Its actually a company within a company. ie the bar is being leased out to other owners who will promote the gay side of things while it is still actually owned but the owner.

Maybe they think it'll be a money spinner. One things for sure now. Anybody who went in there who wasnt gay wont be going in anymore. Is there really that many gays around Carlow that they think this will be a good venture?

Hence the reason its a gay hotel as opposed to a gay bar, accommodation for the incoming market.

nah but seriously, they might get a novelty factor and a decent bit of business for the first while, but then all the "visitors" will see how small carlow is and stick with dublin or wherever. the only way this'll be profitable is if lots of ppl use the hotel and its never quiet.

I think it's probably a "good thing". Sure it can do no harm and it will attract a good few folk to the town.

My only fear is that gangs of young greigcullen filth will decide to put a couple of bricks through the windows. bad game.

Also, supposidly they're going to be having themed menus in the resturaunt... "sausage in buns" anyone? .. with mayo perhaps?

as far as I know it's only got like 19 rooms so it couldn't be that hard to fill........

Myself and steph stayed there years ago just after it opened. The rooms were very nice and had a cool layout. A hell of a lot nicer than the dinnri in my opinion. Pity the change in target audience would change it as a handy town location for alot of people.

actually, they have changed the front of the building. the whole door area is gettin redeveloped it seems. you have to go in the back way now.

Near Cafe Roma and The Music factory. ITs right after that gap/walkway to Superquinns Car park, where the nationalist office used to be. I think it was a clothes shop before it turned blue

Ah no but seriously this will not work. Business levels for one are hardly going to be that good. Also as S4DD mentioned the scumbag factor. Whatever about the bricks through windows and schnidt I'd be more concerned for the poor bastids who go there for some fun and get the stuffing beaten out of them by small minded homophobic geebags in tracksuits. Wrong town.

As for the adult shop, it's about time Ireland got up to speed. I'm not taking full on S&M stuff on sale in your friendly local news agents but a little bit more of a liberal attitude is not a bad thing.

was out in Carlow at the weekend and went into Cosmos (now called the County)- it was rockin. Brilliant DJ that was takin the mick out of the stags and hens- great fun altogether- will be back!
