Disconnects, PPP, Allin, etc etc....

This is getting to be a tired subject over the last while, but yet again, there seems to be more problems to do with disconnects.

Ive been getting a terrible connection today, and cannot hold a signal longer than 10-15 seconds. I though this might just be my laptop, but the connection is messed up over the whole house. I rang BT (I changed off Eircom because of terrible, terrible connection problems like this), and they told me there was problems all over Dublin.

Unfortunaltely I was 2nd CL in an MTT at the time. I ended up bubbling due to the constant disconnects. Very annoying as I was pretty much guaranteed to cash well, as every time I came back I had AA or KK, or another premium hand!

I noticed that everyone else seemed to have good connection, so I figured it must just be me...

I left this for a few hours and came back to find PPP was having cashier problems, so I jumped onto All In. I was only at the table a few minutes when the samme thing was happening. Disconnects every second hand. I was just leaving the table when I noticed everyone else was disconnected too. So maybe it wasn't just me!

Is anyone else having disconnection problems?

Anyway, my point is, why is there so much connection problems these days? I know PPP are not the problem most of the time, and they are great with refunds and that, but ffs... its getting ridiculous. Luckily I didn't lose much, but some people must be losing a lot from this. I know its all part of online 'poker', but surely it shouldn't be something you worry about on a regular basis...

You pay for broadband and you expect to have good connection! Surely these companies should sort this out....

Their sportsbook is down also so maybe this explains something. It doesnt explain all-in though.

lately BT has been very flakey for me in general but I haven't really been playing online, this is just general internet connections.

BT has been grand for me lately, I've never really had any problems at all TBH. Also all the sites I play on have been perfect too (don't play Tribeca so can't comment there sorry) maybe I'm just lucky :)

i dont think its ppp or tribeca or my laptop, im with eircom at the moment, laptop is only few months old so i doubt that is the problem, between the busy hours of about 2-8 connection can be poor, was very bad today...

question : House call, i get disconnected from the net, how can i prevent this? i thought one of the purposes for broadband was to allow fone calls and internet access at the one time????

    Rory,
You should consider getting an alternative connection for times like this. Like Clearwire or Irish Broadband or something. It would cost you extra but if it means the difference between playing and not playing, it would almost definately pay for itself.

For example when I moved into the new gaf I had to wait ages for BB to get connected. I was thinking of getting a wireless service in the mean time but decided not to bother. I had to be online though so I was using dial up. The bill came to around €500 cuz I was on a good bit during the day. Clearwire for a year would only have cost €250 or so for the whole year:mad: I wasnt losin money cuz I had to be playin poker anyway but still bit of a waste

I'm no expert but you need to get a dsl splitter and install it at every phone point. Its very straightforward. It basically splits up the broadband signal (dsl) and the phone signal. When you install the splitter it it stops the broadband signal getting to the phone and thus stops the phone from interfering with the broadband connection. If you have a look at this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=183353 on the Broadband forum under Computers- Net/Comms its about doing a complete home install of a wireless router. All of the thread might not be relevant but it might give you a clearer picture of what needs to be done.

this is extremly weird. im having problems also the last few days same as u rory. ive managed to do quite well despite having lost AA and trips and chased a flush draw which hit, each time shipping over half my stack to lose it due to being disconected (timing out). im with ntl and have been fine for 3 years without a glitch in connections and now this. no longer than 15 seconds on pp without disconnecting. maybe they have a problem with hackers because there has been some very suspect things gone on over the last few months. any views? hey rory ur with bt and im with ntl same thing happening...........whats going on mate.

i've had problems with ntl bb for the past 2 weeks. speed is fine but connection drops for about 10 seconds every hour or so while playing on pokerstars.

    very strange indeed.

    Where are you living Karl?

Do you loose all conectivity or just to PS?

    Dublin 8, Cork St.

tbh i dont do anything else while i play poker so i cant tell if the connection drops completely. I've never noticed it while browsing...

i'm presuming its a 'quiet disconnect' where the quality of the connection degrades, would be ok for browsing but something requiring constant connection like poker would be affected.

/edit - just remembered that i sometimes multitable on stars and party at the same time and both have been affected simultaneously so its not the sites.

I'm having some kind of problem at the moment too. Tribeca keeps jamming on me every 30 seconds or so. It'll be jammed for between 10 - 20 seconds. I loaded up Party Poker and Prima to see if they jammed at the same time but they were fine. It's only happening with my internet connection as I've gone into a few net cafes and it's been grand. Very strange.

It's a bastard having to keep going to net cafes. I figured it was only a short term thing yesterday and went home at about 1230 planning to log back on. Unfortunately the problem was still there and it's still here now. 5/10 seemed to be swimming with fish last night and all I could do was look on as thea03 mopped up the cash. I hope NTL can sort this out soon for me. Do you know if Tribeca requires a higher quality connection Karl, that's the only reason I can see for the other sites working properly while tribeca is jamming.

I also use BT and never really have any problems. Undoubtably some of you lads need to install the DSL splitters that came with your modem when you 1st set up the DSL connection!

Either than or play on Stars, that site is rock solid for me. However, now that I've set up a new account with rakeback on Betfair and a great bonus offer, I won't be seen on my favourite site for a long while!

I'll give you a good rate. :) I run the one in Salthill. We have a business Eircom connection.

I ordered 19" TFT screens today so soon you'll be able to play using one of those instead of the current 17" ones. All that is missing would be a poker keyset for the zboards LOL

Looks like a lot of other people are having the same problem!

I'm still having trouble today, cant keep a connection for longer than 10-15 seconds. It doesn't bother me, I never use the internet at the weekend, but for people you use the internet regularly.... many for their source of income.... it could be annoying and costly...

FastMachine has been playing in my little Internet café for the last 4 hours without any problems what-so-ever. Not sure but I think its the ISP and not the poker site itself.
