Girls (and some guys), what thinkst you of beards (on men obviously)? I'm developing a bit of a thing for them. Not the full-blown Santa-type jobbie, but a bit of facial furniture is pretty darn sexy! Don't go mentioning the food-getting-stuck-in-them scenarios. Obviously not all men are that minging.

Oh you're in the right place... all the best posters on boards.ie have excellent beards.

I have had a beard for the past six months and keep it in fairly good trim. Very liberating not to have to shave every day (saves on the auld blades too)10 mins of trimming once a week is all thats required.

The ladies absolutely love it BTW.... ;)

This is freaky! I had a dream last night about starting a Facial Hair Forum!

I've had a beard of some discription for most of the last 12 years, nearly got me suspended from school. I've had a big sailer beards but usually keep it just a goatee. Sideburns are great fun too!

i have to say i used to really hate beards on fellas, but my boyfriend has one and i really like it (as long as he keeps it in line and doesnt let it get too scruffy)... I think i can really suit some people to have a bit of facial hair.... :)

i've been rockin the goatee for a few years. i feel like i look too young without it, despite the "bam margera" jibes i get on a regular basis...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭brown*eyed*girl

I love facial hair on men as long as someone said earlier they're not SantaStyle! I have particular thing for brown haired goatees with a tinge of auburn :o As much as I despise Brian MacFadden I have to say his beard was lovely- pity about the face underneath..

I rarely shave. I tend to trim down to stubble on a weekly basis.

    Wifey likes it.

I used to have a full beard which I got rid of after almost a year, but I doubt I'd ever grow it back now. After two weeks continuous growth it tends to irritate my face, so I just trim it back again!

What sort of Gnome would I be without my precious beard...? A crap one, ergo beards are great.

Beards suck. People with beards are inerently untrustworthy.

Oh, and OP, do you also have a Linux, Star Wars and/or Apple Mac fetish?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,698 ✭✭✭InFront

Id like to give one a shot actually, but I dont think I can grow one. Im 21 but must be one of those weird man-boys that can go aweek without shaving and still... nothing. Or very little anyway. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes indeed. All of the above. And even though he's an animated character, I find The Simpsons' Comic Book Guy rather shagtastic! Guys with masters degrees in folklore and mythology, who can translate Lord of the Rings into Klingon really do it for me... HEYYY! Are you making fun of me? With that username and that avatar, you clearly have a beard, as well as all of the above fetishes!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,308 ✭✭✭✭Bard

Not quite no. No heed really in (most of) that nerdy shite... and no - no beard! Grew one before though... once... was for a part in a play. Took about 3 - 4 weeks. Haven't grown one since.

Y'see, I used to be into acting/drama/writing/literature/etc. ("the arts", basically).. which is kinda where the name comes from.

    Anyhoo... Welcome to boards.ie

    /me runs off to shave

Definitely not! After one single day, I'm stubbley in a George Michael way... after one week I'd be Charlie from LOST, 2 weeks later - and I've a fuzzy beardy face. Yeuch!

I got rid of my bread (a che guevara type) after I left school and havent really bothered growing one since then, looks better when you have a full head of hair and Im a skinhead now :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

It's not that I love having a beard, it's more that I hate the way I look when clean-shaven. Dunno why - maybe the facefuzz adds a bitta character, who knows... I seem to grow facial hair quite quick as well, so tis a shame that I generally remain clean-shaven these days (most girls don't like the sensation of beard-rash, ya'see:o ).

Meh, the day-old/2-day-old stubble is generally a good compromise!

Gotta say I LOVE the stubble sensation (I'm serious)!

    really... How you doin'?;)

I reckon I look better with a little bit of stubble at least, anyway.

I agree wit what Ruu said, about a beard looking better when you have a full head of hair. I had a kinda goatee-beard thingy up until I got my head shaved two months ago, and then the beard just didn't suit anymore. (I had really long hair, well past the shoulders - the beard complimented it quite well tbh).

    Beards do indeed rule

Up til the start of the summer was sporting quite the Santa beard, now I am back to long goatee

Tis lovely when the drunk women play with it (my beard that is)

Nooooo on the facial hair front!!! No beards, mustaches, goatees...

    Clean-shaven all the way!!!

I didn't think I could grow one either, until last year when I just stopped shaving (through laziness at first), took a month or two (or three) before it was in any decent shape. Shaved it, and totally regretted it, been growing one now (a goatee) since november, haven't trimmed it once!
(except for above the top lip)

It is quite impressive but I fear from the glint in his eye that Alois is the sort of man that will kill for his beard and I doubt he takes kindly to usurpers of his style.

I have a well trimmed goatee and i'm 35 but ya see these dissgusting smelly students aged 22 with full face beards and manky hair, constantly scratching themselves and coverd in acne. Its not a good look for younger blokes methinks.

I know a few 23 year olds who still can't grow beards.

22 myself and can (and do) grow a gotee but I could leave the sideburns going for weeks and there still wouldn't be much there.

Which I'm happy enough with to be honest. I like my gotee :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

You see the way it's pointed out that Alois' beard is natural. Are there actually guys with false beards kind of like hair extensions?

Big hairy beards are for old men and Santa Claus. Goatees are ok, and theyre less painful than stubble.:)

My gf always protested that she hated facial hair of any type, couldn't stand it and one night a group of us were talking about beards and the lads (being lads) decided we would grow some sort of beard for a laugh.

I now have my goatee for over a year and my gf loves it!!! When I mentioned that I might shave it off she was the one who suggested I keep it :)

I've always had trimmed sideburns. Well, when I say 'always' I mean since I was about sixteen or so, not as a toddler and through my early childhood years. Don't be so pedantic! :D

I have had a well-kempt beard for years. Shaved it on a whim and no-one recongised me :( I guess it's "me" now.

I got rid of my goatee once and it felt like my top lip had grown towards my feet,i had to grow it back again!

I grow a beard quite a lot. But it's in combination with a shaved head and careful maintenace so it makes me look like a sexy terrorist rather than a paedophile computer programmer...

Goatee, stubble, is ok, can add a good bit onto a person. An actual beard.....unless you're 50, it looks naff :D
