Im plannin on doin the general science course next year, points permitting, but have heard that a large percentage of ppl drop out of it. Is that just coincidence, or is it really that bad of a course?? I presume as long as ya do a little study ya'll b fine but is there any other reason i shud kno of??

its what were here for, everyone who gets abuse over this trendy 'text speak' and then reverts to talking like a normal person as a result is a victory

Oh and about the drop out rate, it's not that the course is bad but that it's not what a lot of people expect, science in college is nothing like science in the leaving cert. It's not a hard year in terms of learning once you go to your lectures and read the relevant books.

now ya see thats the plain and simple advice i need to hear right now. Its just that i've had a few people reccommending me not to do that course due to the drop-out rate. And it didnt really help that my biology teacher was one of them. Thanks for the advice, my life depends on it.
    Ohhh, so dramatic!!

The main thing to remember is that it's not a catch-all like Arts. You have to actually LIKE science to enjoy it, because there's a lot of information to take in and if you're bored by it you just won't do well.

Like John2 said, a lot of the drop out rate is due to college science being different from LC science. Also, a lot of people kind of end up in science, it was the 7th or 8th choice on the CAO after medicine/OT/dentistry/MSISS/etc, and might decide after a few months/a year that it really isn't what they want to be doing. A few people i was in 1st year science with left at the end of first year, they then repeated the leaving and are now studying medicine.

Well i guess you could say i do love science alright. My mates often take the piss out of me for doin so well in biology and physics. I was going to apply for physio but i realised i had no interest in that field. Give me my plain old science degree and ill b happy. Its my first choice so hopefully i get it. Got 420 in my mock exams so im hoping the points are within reach.
