Have you often listened to a song only to find out years later that the words were totally different?

For example KD Lang had a song called 'Constant Craving'
and i thought the tyrics went 'I cant stand gravy and i always will'

Anyone remember Zig and Zag AOR (Alient Orientated Rocktime) on 2FM in the morning? They did a few of these, I remember the following

"She dried meat gravey" -"She drives me crazy" Fien Yound Cannibals
"A Haon Deig" - something about legs 11, dont' know the original song
"Are you wonkey Annie?" - "Are you ok Annie?" Micko Jacko

    There were loads of them.

Whenever I hear these songs these days I still hear the Zig and Zag lyrics!

I've a related problem... I've an old 80s pop tune on a tape that has bugging me at this stage for YEARS because I ca't figure out who sang it/the title so I can download it snd put it to rest :p (Side note: the OP's "KD Lang - Constant Craving" was on this list for a while too:))

I've tried googling the lyrics and such but no luck.. I'd try ripping it to a mp3 and upload it if I could, or can try posting lyrics here if any of ye are good at that sorta thing - I used to be pretty good at FM104's "Beat the Intro" game myself :D

There was a fantastic ad campaign from the late 80's for Maxell tapes about this very concept!

Bascially, guy on a street, a là Dylan "Subterranian Homesick Blues' film, dropping lyrics cards to a song.

One of the songs was Demond Dekker's reggae classic 'The Isrealites',

Desond sung "aaaaaaaaaaahhh ahhhh The Isrealities"

But the card read "aaaaaaaaaaahhh ahhhh me ears are alight!"

    Full lyrics:

    Get up in the morning
    Sleeping for bread Sir
Sold out to every monk and cheese head
    Ooh Ooh
    Me ears are alight

    Why find my kids
To buck up and a leave me
    Darling cheese head
    I was far too greasy
    Ooh Ooh
    Me ears are alight

    ok here goes... :)
    [intro/chorus]
Gonna get better baby, I'm a good thing
    (I'm a good thing)
you will never make me crawl
    (no you won't baby oh)

Gonna get better baby, I'm a good thing
    (I'm a good thing)
you will never make me crawl
    (no you won't baby oh)

Said he'll never let me go
said he's gonna hold me back
    said his name was Envy
    said things would get better

I gotta rope around my neck
    got chains on my feet
he's watchin every single thing I do
now I'm ruinning from the big boy

    Someone take my hand
    don't care if I fall
    don't care if I stumble
    I will never crawl

    take me by the hand
    don't care if I fall
    don't care if I tumble
    you won't make me crawl

    [chorus]
Gonna get better baby, I'm a good thing
    (I'm a good thing)
you will never make me crawl
    (no you won't baby oh)

Gonna get better baby, I'm a good thing
    (I'm a good thing)
you will never make me crawl
    (no you won't baby oh)

Is there ... ? (can't quite make this line out)
    he's drowing my life
my happiness is down the drain
    could be gone forever

    and jealous men are dangerous
    they're out of control
    I've got a ticket, got a ride
I've got to save my soul

    Someone take my hand
    don't care if I fall
    don't care if I stumble
    I will never crawl

    take me by the hand
    don't care if I fall
    don't care if I tumble
    you won't make me crawl

    [chorus]
Gonna get better baby, I'm a good thing
    (I'm a good thing)
you will never make me crawl
    (no you won't baby oh)

Gonna get better baby, I'm a good thing
    (I'm a good thing)
you will never make me crawl
    (no you won't baby oh)

    [musical interlude]

Check this website out for misunderstood lyrics

    Abba: Dancing Queen
    The real lyrics were:
    You can dance,
    You can jive,
Having the time of your life...

    But I misheard them as:
    You can dance,
    You can die,
Having the time of your life...

Band on the Run: Paul MCCartney
    The real lyrics were:
Band on the run, Band on the Run.....

    But I misheard them as:
Stand on the rug, Stand on the rug...

    Kim Carnes: Bette Davis Eyes
    The real lyrics were:
She knows just how to make a pro blush

    But I misheard them as:
She knows just how to make a clothes brush

If you listen to it again you will hear "I wear goggles when you are not here", haha.

The one that got me was a Billy Joel song, 'Goodnight Saigon', and the line:

They sent us Playboy, they gave us Bob Hope

    I heard it as:

They sent us Playboy, they gave us bog roll

Only discovered the real words a year back or so, hmm.....:)

Some of these are very funny!

Someone I know used to think Gabriell's song Out of Reach where she sings "out of reach" sounds like "gonorrhoea" (without pronouncing the a). Listen to it next time and it really does!!

There's a Mariah Carrey(I think) song called 'I Can't Live' and at one point it sounds like she says 'I can't forget the semen on your face as you were leaving'

Genuinely thought for a long time she was saying "I walk the roads when you are not here"
Thot it was quite an Irish way of putting it

Also for years, in the chorus of Eurythmics 'Love is a stranger', I used to think Annie was saying 'Self-in-circumcision' (ouch!!) instead of 'so it's an obsession'. Was only enlightened quite recently.

My ma stopped us corrupting Police's 'Message in a bottle' when she heard us shouting out 'message up your bottom'

Can anyone confirm if Holly Johnson actually refers to the... er... end result after the 'climax' during 'Relax' by Frankie Goes to Hollywood? I'm convinced he does but says it in a way that was clearly indistinct to get it round the censor.
