    world cup starts today woohoo!

This is the month for crazy bets, football or
    otherwise.

Anyone want to take any of these bets

That I can lose half a stone before the end of the
    tournament
Spain wont reach the Quater finals
Ronaldinho doesnt score more then 4 goals
Poland get out of the group stages
1 Mile race - ill give anyone a 75m heads start and
    give them 2/1
Its the 9th of june now, Im up about $200 for the
month. I bet I make over 10k this month anyway (this
is a good bet allthough it involves trusting me, plus
the world cup is on so ill be playing less than
    normal)
I can go the whole month without eating pizza (I eat a tonne of pizza)

Ill bet any amount up to $100 on the football bets,
and $250 on any of the other ones, all bets unless
    otherwise stated 1/1

That I can lose half a stone before the end of the
    tournament

I'll bet i can lose more than you. if someone brings a weighing scales into the fitz we can do it officially! we could even go with a spread bet if others want to get involved!!

Spain wont reach the Quater finals
I'll take this one HJ, $100?? Even odds??

If Spain play in the Quarter Finals I win $100, if they get knocked out in the Group stages or Second Round I owe you $100???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

The race is tempting. Also would give me another reason to get fit.
Poland is a bad bet for anyone to take. 1.64 on betfair.

allin king - ok for how much - note that if he scores 4 I win, 5 and you win.
ocallagh - great idea. Tell me when youll be in the fitz next and ill come down with a weighing scales
    Ste - done and done
bohsman - Definitely go for the race

Hector. Poland to qualify is best priced 8/11 with Ladbrokes (obv u need to back this before 5.00).

Spain not to reach 1/4s is effectively 2 bets. 7/1 with VCbet 'Spain NOT to qualify from group'. 6/4 with V/C bet Spain to get knocked out in last 16.
Combined odds of these 2 are about 10/11 so Ste05s Evens is a fair bet for you to take.

Cant help you with the rest.

Edited to correct error :- I gave the best 'Not to Qualify' Poland odds originally

Fine, $250 first week of July?

Spain to reach the quarters is 1.78 on BF so def a good bet for Ste.

dathio - no deal! half a stone will be hard enough
ocallagh - I might be able to make the fitz then, im going down to sligo on satruday night, but planning to come back during the day. Pm me or post if you wont be there
armani - I realise some of these bets are bad for me (ie I could get better elsewhere) but im mainly trying to have fun! I hate gambling so bookies really put me off

Fine. We need to figure out the guidelines. Winner is biggest % of loss of starting weight sound right? Final weigh in at Fitz International Heads-up game on Sat 8th July (day before WC final)??

    What u think HJ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

i'll be up for a 100 euro 3 mile race, if anyone feels like really going for it. I figure there's less variance over longer distances.

The Wimbledon mens final is going to be on the same day as the world cup final (if there are no rain delays).

What price will you give on England winning the world cup and good old Tim Henman winning Wimbledon.

PS:If this happens you may as well turn of your TV and only read Irish newspapers for the next 50 years.

Has anyone got any World Cup bets they particularly fancy? I lumped 4 figures on Germany today with in-game betting at a laughable 25-1 on to beat Costa Rica when they were 2-1 up (I was on my way to the computer to do it at 1-1 but they had scored again before I got there), don't think I'll bother buying money anymore this tourny.

I have backed the Ivory Coast tomorrow against the Argies, I think Ivory Coast could be a real shock in that group of death.

I have backed Crouch to be top scorer for the tournament at 33-1, though that was before Rooney's good scan, I fancy Crouch to hammer in goals against Paraguay and Trinidad.

I've also backed Robben to win the Golden whatever for the best player of the tournament at 50-1.

Gambling is entirely necessary and correct at World Cup time, otherwise why would you sit through a Poland - Ecuador game :)

Good luck to all of you with your bets this tourny, just remember this study I think I posted before ;) -

I would like to take a weight loss bet.

What if everyone who wants in on it for €250/300 a man winner takes all bet done on a total % of body weight lost (or by total stones lost as I am fairly average I dont really mind which). Weigh in at the fitz on sunday?

I will give any winnings to 1pp.

    Come on lads!!!!

Did they not get hammered in the African Nations cup? Also lost their 3 warm up games last week.

Er, no. They reached the final, and lost on penalties. Maybe you're thinking of one of the other African nations? Togo were brutal in the ANC. The Ivory Coast drew their last two warm-up games iirc, can't remember the third.

HJ, this is a crazy bet: you're almost guaranteed to get someone who's better than you to take you on. I know poker players are generally a lazy bunch, but there's sure to be someone here who's a top-class runner. If you still take this bet on, then I think it's proof that you are, in fact, a gambler!

BTW, I have no knowledge of either HJ's or Bohsman's running ability.

Youve been looking for prop bets for ages. None of the best prop bets are poker related.
