I damaged my right ankle a couple of years slipped in a pot hole running cross country nothing too serious, did nothing for a few weeks and it was fine. However now when I run my ankles give me pain unless I wear ankle supports which is what I always do I know that is is probably doing more harm than good and now my ankles are fairly weak, has anyone any suggestions on how to strengthen them so I can run without the supports.

    Thanks

I had a similar experience and it ended up twisting randomly when i was using it i bought a balance board a few months ago and use it for a few minutes a day randomly, the the muscles have gtten a lot stronger and i feel a lot more confident using it now im even considering going back jogging soon

if you live near by your more than welcome to try it out and see if you think it would benefit you

i bought it in one of the adventure store in dublin city centre they are widely available online but they are pretty expensive

do a google for indo board that the model i got they are aimed at surfers and skate boards but they do a great job for building up the ankles, be careful till you get used to it you will need someone to hold you tll you get used to it they can be very dangerous it only takes a couple of hours to get used to it though

Those indo boards are VERY expensive for what you are getting. You can get a balance cushion for €35 that does the exact same thing (it doesn't look as good though). A wobble board is pretty much the exact same thing except not as expensive and without the designs on it.

Which ever you go for this is the rehab protocol to progress the ankle strength and proprioception.

Then try to do it with your eyes closed.

There are a couple of suppliers of balance cushions and wobble boards that will deliver. PM me if you want their contact details
