I currently weight just over 9 stone and I'm looking to add 2-3 stone by this time next year. I'd be going to the gym 3/4 times a week on top of this.

    Meal 1 (breakfast):

Porridge or fry up (bacon, sausage, egg)
    Bread
Pint of milk / glass of OJ
    Banana

    Meal 2:

    Pecan/almond cake,
    Bottle of OJ.

    Meal 3 (lunch):

    2 bagels,
    Cream cheese,
    Low fat fruit yoghurt,
    Glass of OJ.

    Meal 4:

    Pasta w/ bacon, tomatoes, peppers,
    Pint of milk,
    Apple.

    Meal 5 (dinner):

Steak or pork/lamb chop w/ chips or salmon, prawns and avocado.
    Pint of milk.

    Meal 6:

    Cereal and banana,
    Chocolate milk.

I am also looking at Maximuscle supplements at the moment, Progain and Cretamax Extreme in particular, any advice on them would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    JB.

too much bacon and fried food for a start, not enough fruit or veg variety and too many sweet things.

Not enough protein there as a percentage of calories. I wouldnt advise drinking that much milk in a day either. Its not actually very good for you.

I'd agree with other posters, not enough protein during the day. Stay off the fry's and thats a lot of milk, which is a lot of lactose!

My own personal opinion on maximuxcle.. there's better products out there that won't blow the pants off you

The healthiest way to put on weight is to eat more bananas.
Avoid ones that are getting black speckles.. they raise blood sugar levels too fast which dried my skin out.
Milk will likely stuff you up and personally bloats me and gives me spots. Leave it for the calfs to drink.

    I was under 10 stone.. now I'm over 11.
I tried to not eat too many empty calories in my quest. These will give you a weight increase but decrease your health. Plenty of greens beside starchy veg (potatoes, carrots, parsnip)/beans for density.

For building muscle.. eat lots of sweet fruits (Mango, Nectarine, berries etc) straight after working out. These will promote muscle growth by getting your blood sugar levels up to prevent your body eating up energy from unused muscles instead of carbohydrates and give you the antioxidants for muscle repair/regrowth.

Thats just not true. If you want to put on muscle weight (and who doesn't?) then there are just two big dietary guidlines you need to follow
    1. Eat more calories than you need.
    2. Eat a high protein diet.

Theres lots of other issues and effects that health scientists debate about, some of which are discussed in the stickies.

    What's 'just not true'?

Eating more calories and a reasonable amount of protein is important, I didn't say it wasn't.

"The general advice has been to focus on high carbohydrate foods in order to replenish depleted muscle glycogen stores. Research has shown that carbohydrate intake within two hours of endurance exercise is essential to building adequate glycogen stores for continued training. Waiting longer than two hours to eat results in 50 percent less glycogen stored in the muscle. The reason for this is that carbohydrate consumption stimulates insulin production, which aids the production of muscle glycogen."

Follow the fruit up with protein.

    Heya,
I was like you at one stage..in 2000 i was 7 stone, then by 2002 i think i was balanced at 9ish then 2004 11ish now im 13 1/2 nearly 14. But what age are you if you dont mind me asking? For gaining weight its best to stay away from sweets and frys..unless you want a gut and cut the drinking down if you drink.

Make sure to keep yourself hydrated, eat alot of chicken, turkey, meat in general but leaner meat like chicken is best. Eggs without the yoke are great source of protien, and rice aswell..alot of carbs in rice/potatoes for weight gain...which could result in some fat but it will give you the energy for your workouts. Fruit aswell as someone suggested are a workout is great. As for supplements, maximuslce isnt the best, there are many other protien powders and mass gainers which will help you, but remember these are extra, not to replace your meal.
You should use something like fitday.com
It helps you see what your really eating, esp since you can add your own foods. This is mine as of late http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=kwalsh000
I didnt finish that day, so check back through the previous days.
It just helps to give you an idea of what you really eat. Bare in mind, in mine there is alot of fruits and veg which i didnt really add...but dont forget to keep up with the veg.
Sorry my head is all over the place today..but hope it helped
