I hope this is the correct forum to be posting this. I am a 24 year old girl and I would really like to take up running. I'm very unfit though and when I do run even for a short while I get very out of breath, I'm also overweight, I don't know my exact weight but I'm 5 foot 8 inches and around 13 stone. Is there any running clubs in the dublin 7 area I could join that would be for beginners? I am in the process of losing weight and try to walk for at least two hours a day. Any help would be appreciated. ;)

Dublin 7? Dont bother with a club, just grab a friend and go jogging round the phoenix park :D ... In all seriousness, my a frind lives in Cabra, I'll ask him if he knows of any. Good luck, and while your waitnig, why not go for a 10 minute jog everyday? Don't kill yourself, just do a little bit at a time...

i started running about 2 years ago and i couldn't run more than 100 metres without being wildy out of breadth but i took it very slowly and in time i improved and since then i have done 2 marathons.

My advice is, go to the park and go fora small run as often as you can and take it very slowly, after a few weeks you will see your stamina and fitness improving.

    good luck!

I think a good beginning strategy is to do walking mixed with running to build up your stamina a bit. That, coupled with perseverance, and you'll be doing marathons in no time :)

This is a great plan seems slow at first but around week 4 it is exhausting.

I think as a 24 year old you would have no problem.

I know it seems ridiculous at first but running is for your whole life and isn't a quick weight loss fix.
