Has anyone seen episode 1 yet, hope they're as good as last season. Gus and Mattasow on the lineup this season.

Oh, right. Sorry 'Oliver' Musician I will wait for 'Stan' Lafortezza to enter and ask people to stop referring to their cousins. :)

I don't know where to find my cousins, and I am too lazy to look so I am just bitter.

Just saw the first episode of the second series, and I thought it wasn't half as good as the first one.

More talk then actual play. No remarkeable hands or play imo.

Have to agree with this. However, the last minute addition of Mommy Negreanu and Mommy Matusow really saved the episode.:)

And why did Fred Charmanara come back? Maybe i should open a restaurant if thats the sort of money in it.

I wonder what colour the paper is....I'm having trouble seeing this package..perhaps a hint as to the wrapping via PM. All I can see is the wrapping paper left over from Season 1...:o

I have many cousins! I use google to keep up to date with them all! I don't discuss any of my cousins on boards.ie where it might be seen as potentially illegal!

I hope everyone is happy! I'm drunk

Very nice that the second season got out so fast!

Anyone else think some of the play was quite poor?

    Farhas mad bluff at grinder,
Allaei limping in with AQ letting the pot go multi way,
Matusow shuts up every time he has a hand,
The restaurant guy passing winners all the time.

Was impressed by Laaks laydown to negreanu

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

Yes i thought Laak played that one well. Funny when matusow hit trips and they all insta-folded to his minimum bet! The play was quite poor overall. The grinder impressed me, he got good cards but he bet them well.

Farhas bluff was crazy! He impressed me in the first season so I expect him to get back into his stride.

Looking forward to seeing Freddie Deeb play again.

You think we could persuade Andy to sit down???:)

He would probably be a favourite if they keep playing paaaaaasive as they did there.

I felt as if there was a lot of scared money at the table, maybe they just dont want to mess up in front of anyone but I wasnt overly impressed.

Ditto on grinder thought he played well, but did you notice every time he had a made hand he bet with cash and every time he wasnt made he used the chips?

Ok less of the requests for introductions to cousins please, this is not a dating site.

I watched the first episode of this last night. Seems like the table banter is better with Farha, Negreanu and especially Matusow at the table. I hope Hellmuth comes back, he was funny.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 474 ✭✭delanec8

Im pretty sure hellmuth didnt play this time around though i would love to see him and Matusow go at it

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

I introduced everyone that asked up as far as jem to my cousin. So those folks can help out the others.

The slagging was great. Negreanu telling the Mouth that he folded top pair was great.

This cousin sounds like a nice bloke, i have yet to be introduced though, can anyone help?

What was up with Matusow running the river twice. This has to be the dumbest things Ive ever seen at the poker table. He defended himself saying he didn't want to get unlucky but when your 4.5:1 fav with one card to come why give Farha 2 chances to hit.
I'm finding it hard to find the logic behind this deal.
Just for those who didn't see the hand Mike had pocket aces with one diamond and Farha had his usual scrap like 75. Mike called Farha's all in on the turn with 3 diamonds on the board and Farha had an open ended straight draw and one pair I think, so at best had 8 outs if he did in fact have a pair.

Sorry for the lack of detail I was a tad bit drunk watching this last night.

No the dumbest thing ever was series one with Phil Helmuth taking insurance of 80% from Barry Greenstein when he was a 90%+ favourite. Has he ever heard of BR management? If you can't afford to lose a (relatively) small pot in that game don't play it Phil. And then he justified it by saying he rings up Phil Ivey who offers him insurance in tghese dicrumstances all the time LMAO!!

    Absolutely brilliant series.

Its not silly really. It will just decrese variance - wont effect his odds at all. If Farha hit the straight on the first river you might think Matusow a genius.

People can PM me if they want to find their cousin.

The restaraunt guy must be the biggest fish ever. How much money is in the restaraunt trade in Chicago ffs? That call with AJ must be one of the worst i've ever seen.

I'll tell you something, Daniel Alaei and the Grinder are class players!

Didn't see much of Alaei in the first season, but he's very very good...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,212 ✭✭✭MrPillowTalk

Matusow Vs Alllei first hand in.

They put themselves on tv so Im going to criticise :)

First off Matusow raises with KQ and Allei wakes up with AK behind him and flat calls, surely if there is any player at the table you want to raise with AK against its Matusow, but flat calling aint terrible I suppose.

Flop comes Q K Q with two clubs, Jackpot for Mike, he bets out which I think is a clever move as he will disguise his hand, Allei calls. If I am Matusow then I am thinking here Allei has either a club draw, a queen or a straight draw I would think a King raises to define his hand.

So turn comes a rag spade and Matusow checks!! I reckon this is an idiot move there are now a ton of draws out there and Allei hasnt shown any real strength so unless Allei has the case Q then Mike is giving a free draw, now thats a great move if the club hits that he thinks makes his opponents hand and he figures to get paid but he misses money on the turn where a half pot bet would have been called by a flush draw or a king and would have built the pot for a decent bet on the river even if the draw didnt hit. Am I way out here or would that not have been the best way to play it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,352 ✭✭✭Ardent

I think Matusow played it perfectly. Betting out on the flop was genius and helped to disguise his hand. The check on the turn was necessary to 1) further disguise his hand 2) not scare Alaei away 3) induce a bet from Alaei. All of which happened. The hand was so well played that Alaei really felt he might have the best of it and called Matusow's bet on the river. Matusow got the maximum amount of money playing that hand the way he did IMO.
